The debates around the NASCAR Championship format and the credibility of the champion resurfaced again, stronger than ever, amidst the start of 2025 playoffs. Reigning champion Joey Logano’s Team Penske Racing teammate Austin Cindric, shared his thoughts the system and has a solid defence for it.

On his appearance in the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Austin Cindric was asked about his thoughts on playoffs debate, and the changes needs to made. He asserted that once a person understands the system, it’s more exciting than anything and NASCAR has made some changes to make it simpler for the supporters.

I think the playoff format is exciting for those who understand it. And I think if there are any changes in the future that are to be made, it has to be first and foremost simplifying in order for more to understand and appreciate.

Furthermore, the Team Penske Racing driver pointed out that NASCAR should not introduce more provisional regarding points in the coming years, as some significant changes to the playoffs are reported. He wants the sports to not make things confusing and keep sports entertaining with changes everyone understands.

Because otherwise, it’s difficult to add more incentives and more items into the fold like a top 10 provisional in points or something like that. You got to stop right there because you’re going to lose people’s interest because it’s going to be really confusing.

Talking about his upcoming racing venture, Austin Cindric highlighted how it’s been a decade since he last raced in Australia. He once seriously thought about racing in Supercars or it second division series instead of NASCAR or Sportscars racing.

It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been down to Australia to go race. There’s a certain point in time in my career that it (racing in Supercars) was a legitimate consideration to go race full time. Whether it be Super Two (the minor leagues) or something else.

Further talking about the point, the Penske driver asserted that the series has some of the best young and empierced racers in the world, with it being a series that he always admired. He is looking to reignite the relationships he made while racing there is a decade ago in events such as the Bathurst 12 Hour race.

Obviously, they’ve done a great job with that series in producing great drivers. So as a younger driver, it was something I really looked at pretty heavily. I’ve always kind of kept a pulse on it. I did some racing down there in the past, with the Bathurst 12 Hour and I have a lot of great relationships there. It’s really cool to see it all come full circle.
