23XI Racing is in a tough spot. The team owned by Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan is at risk of losing its cup charters alongwith Front Row Motorsports in a legal battle with NASCAR. The latest court verdict has stripped the two teams of temporary charter status, making them open slots. This is not only a financial blow to 23XI, but could even affect its driver line-up. NASCAR pundit Bob Pockrass hinted that Tyler Reddick might not stick around the team for long in such a scenario.

The infamous charter lawsuit has been dragging on for months. Initially 23XI and FRM were given temporary charter status despite NASCAR’s unwillingness to retain the two teams. The two outfits argue that the sport’s latest charter conditions were nothing short of monopolistic. In the past weeks, things have been in favor of the championship, making it more difficult for 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports.

Denny Hamlin‘s team has stated in the past that driver contracts usually mandate charters as a requirement and this is indeed the case for Tyler Reddick and his teammate Bubba Wallace. If 23XI is completely stripped of its charters, it would violate the contractual agreements, effectively making the two drivers free agents.

Bob Pockrass pointed out that in theory at least, Tyler Reddick could get the freedom to move around the field heading into next season. While he believed that no driver from the two teams would want to leave, Reddick would be on the radar for all top teams. This could potentially pave the way for the No. 45 driver to find a new seat, with a secure charter, something he might not really refuse. Though, Reddick has not shown any signs of wanting to leave 23XI Racing in such a scenario for now.

Maybe the biggest impact would be, theoretically, without a charter, drivers can probably become free agents. Because their contracts typically require a chartered car. Now, do you expect any of them to leave? No. But Tyler Reddick, pretty darn good driver, and you would think that if there is a chance that he is available, you know, a team potentially could make an offer for him.

Denny Hamlin and 23XI could face Tyler Reddick headache amid charter fight

Denny Hamlin and his team have a lot on their plate already. The lawsuit against NASCAR only seems to be getting worse, with no relief for 23XI Racing. At this time, the team would want to consolidate all its efforts and energy into winning its case and getting back the charter rights. However, the Tyler Reddick dilemma might require attention.

Bob Pockrass asserted that if a team does make an offer to Reddick, it would certainly end up being a distraction for Hamlin’s squad. 23XI Racing has no choice but to prepare for such a possibility, while continuing to focus on the legal fight as well as the remainder of the 2025 season.

You know, does that just become another distraction for Denny and their team to go through that? Possibly. But it’s still something that’s going to have to be considered as things go forward.

Bob Pockrass stated.

The current situation will undoubtedly test everyone at 23XI Racing, which is still a relatively new team in the field. The organization will need to endure everything that might come in its way and hope that Tyler Reddick’s future remains secure. The coming weeks will be difficult for Hamlin and his team. Though, fans would hope that 23XI can get back its full charter rights before the end of the year.
