The Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway was with out a doubt one of the worst race product NASCAR has ever produced. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill pulled of a surprising race win, but no one is talking about it as everyone is concerned about the overaggressive racing that yielded him the win.
The most egregious incident of the day was the last corner wreck caused by Sammy Smith who made a desperate move to take the lead, in a race that has already saw 14 cautions and one red flag. NASCAR veterans didn’t hesitate to call out the young driver for the lack of respect on the track on Saturday, on social media as well as via other media platforms.
2012 NASCAR Cup champion and RFK Racing co-owner, Brad Keselowski has now joined the long list of racers to give their 2 cents on the situation. He pointed out that the situation needs immediate fixing and the solutions should come from the owners. The veteran urged them to park the drivers when they are getting out of control.
I’ve been really quiet on this over the last few days but it’s clear this is important to fix and also clear that it’s bigger than 1 race weekend. My 2 cents- The solution needs to come from the car owners not NASCAR. Until the car owners are willing to park their drivers for getting this out of control, very little will change.

Further talking about the point, Keselowski pointed out that the drivers need to understand there will be consequences for their actions. He then admitted that some teams are afraid losing funding as they have drivers that brings in big bucks, but pointed out that sometimes the owners has to ignore it, in order to change the atmosphere.
I get that they are all scared to park a funded driver out of fear they will lose the money to continue to operations. However, at some point, that’s the risk you have to take to get this right. I believe if all of the teams do it together, it would work.

Brad Keselowski’s fellow veteran Denny Hamlin urged NASCAR to get involved
Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin, who understands the perspective of Keselowski as he is also a team owner, wants NASCAR to get involved in the situation. He believes the sanctioning body has been spectator for a long-time and its time to change.

I mean, we’ll talk about it a little bit tomorrow. Certainly, I think the sanctioning body needs to get involved a little bit and step in on egregious things. I think it’s continued to ramp up, right? We’ve seen this stuff.
Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.
Further talking about the situation after winning the Martinsville Cup race, Hamlin pointed out that the driving was horrible from the Xfinity racers. He reminded NASCAR that blag flags are their for a reason and its time to start using them more.

It was just horrible driving by most of the people out there. It’s just not a good look. Certainly, you shouldn’t be able to just wipe someone out egregiously like what happened at the end of the race yesterday. Certainly, we have a black flag for a reason. I think we should start using it.
Denny Hamlin added.
The comment from the veteran racers shows the time has come to make changes to the sport, regarding the youngsters. It would be interesting to see how the sanctioning body is going to make this happen.
