The NASCAR community is still discussing the uncertainty over the future of Brad Keselowski and RFK Racing since the announcement of their sudden spilt. 2012 Cup champion is set to leave the team at the end of the season, as the leadership wants him take over a full-time competition director role while he wants to race more.

Since then, the veteran has been making moved behind the scenes to land a seat for the upcoming season, including finding a potential ownership role. Ahead of the Talladega race week, he revealed details about an unsolicited bid from his side to buy RFK Racing, which unsurprisingly got rejected. Jack Roush and Fenway Sports Group has no plans to sell their stakes.

I would say yes, there is truth that I made an unsolicited bid to buy RFK Racing; that was denied in the last week.

Brad Keselowski said.

One key reason behind the refusal of the bid according to Brad Keselowski is the change in NASCAR ownership model. The 23XI-FRM lawsuit settlement with the sport made the Charters permeant and since then the demand for team ownership in the sport has quadrupled. Hence, it won’t be easy for the champion driver to find the stake he desires.

As Madison Avenue has really taken a whole new notice of NASCAR, and the team ownership model in particular after the settlement of the lawsuit, I think there is increasing interest — rapidly increasing interest — in NASCAR team ownership. And it’s something that I desire to be a part of.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. backs Brad Keselowski amidst criticism of RFK drama

Following the announcement of the split, some fans turned on Keselowski for one reason or another, which is unfair to a former champion. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. addressed this factor on the latest episode of his podcast, highlighting how the veteran changed the whole RFK team from a back marker to a race winning side, while also changing their whole culture.

I’ll tell you this: what Brad was trying to accomplish, he accomplished because, if you’re looking, if I’m outside perception, which I think I am in this case, I think we all are. My opinion was that the culture was changing. They were changing.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on his podcast.

One major criticism of the veteran’s leadership recently was the no-hoodie rule for the crew, which was part of his effort to make the team more professional. Junior backed the initiative, by highlighting how an organization that wants to on the same level as Ford’s premier side Team Penske should also operate on the same premier level.

You’re going to have to act like that Penske team. That’s that tier one team. You’re going to have to look like and act like them. And so that’s how you change the organization from the inside out. And that’s how you start to get the things you’re looking for in terms of the help from the outside, from Ford, from partners that you’re bringing in, and all these different things

Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

The JR Motorsports co-owner knows what it takes to operate a championship contending team in NASCAR and his comments about Keselowski shows the veteran was leading the team on the right direction. It would be interesting to see what will be the future of RFK and the driver from the 2027 Cup season.
