The NASCAR Cup garage is set for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway and yet again the criticism of playoff system has taken the centre stage. Kyle Larson, the winningest driver of the year and Christopher Bell, the most consistent driver of the season missing out of the championship-4 owing to poor performance in the R-8.
Many former drivers and senior race analysts have come out criticizing the format, claiming it doesn’t reward the best drivers, and finale doesn’t feature the best. Now during his press-conference ahead of the NASCAR season finale, the series President Steve Phelps has addressed the situation and pointed out that not every series has best teams in the finale.

He went onto assert that Steve Phelps over the last 10 years the format has been tweaked multiple times to make it better. Phelps pointed out that the driver in the championship-4 won their way into the finale and it creates incredible racing.
NASCAR believes the playoff races has been impressive because of the format
While further talking about the point, Steve Phelps pointed out that the playoff format creates impressive races. He asserted that the post-season rewarding race winners makes the races much more interesting as they have to race their heats out.
The points made by the NASCAR senior executive seems to be valid and he is right to say that the format inspires impressive racing. But it put drivers in a desperate situation, often causing unwanted incidents.
