Coming into the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire, the Toyota garage was high on confidence after JGR and 23XI Racing drivers dominant run in R-16. Unfortunately, all five TRD drivers in the playoff had a disappointing outing, with No:23 Camry driver Bubba Wallace having the worst weekend, that earned him a P26 finish.
On his post-race interview, Bubba Wallace was candid about his performance compared to the R-12, as he is now the worst placed driver in the table. He admitted that he failed to extract any pace from the car, and it was longest day he ever had in a race car recently, making the day a big head scratcher. Him failing to handle the car balance played a major role in the frustrating race day.
Yeah. That was the longest day I’ve had in a racecar in a long time, Dylan. Just a head scratcher, and that’s how it really was the start of the weekend. You know, in practice, I didn’t really know which way to handle the balance. I thought we were neutral. We obviously fired off and didn’t have much to speak for.
Bubba Wallace said via NBC Sports broadcast (On3.com).
He hated the result for himself as well as the 23XI Racing team, as all three of their racers finished outside the top 20. Tyler Reddick scored a P21 while Riley Herbst finished just behind him at P22. The track condition caught the whole team by surprise, and they failed to extract enough speed to compete for the race win.
So, I hate that. It looks like our whole team struggled just to find the speed and the feel that we needed. I said it before, this is a tricky place, but to be that far off, that kinda caught all of us by surprise.
Bubba Wallace added.
Further talking about the point, he gave his crew that credit that is due, as the team did a pretty solid job in executing perfectly in the pit road, when it was demanded of them. He failed to reward them with a good result for their efforts. The star driver has now shifted his focus to the upcoming race at Kansas where he won in 2022.
But I appreciate the team. Pit crew did a good job of getting us spots on pit road when it mattered, and we threw everything at it, just never reacted the way we wanted it to. So, I hate it. But all you can do is keep your head down and keep on digging next week.
Bubba Wallace asserted.
Bubba Wallace explained when things exactly went wrong for him
In a separate conversation about the same, Bubba Wallace pointed out that his whole day was a miss for him and admitted that other than the first five laps, his whole day was a nightmare. The 2025 Brickyard 400 champion admitted that once the caution came out on the fifth lap, his momentum was gone and his race plateaued.

Just a miss all around really. We couldn’t really seem to get things going. Our best run lasted for five laps, the caution came out, and then it was just right back to no good. I hate it. I felt really optimistic and marched forward at the start, and it just never really went anywhere. We kind of plateaued on Lap 5, and that was it. I hate that.

The comments from the 23XI Racing driver shows he is really disappointed with how the whole race played out for him as well as his team. It would be interesting to see how the team will perform in the upcoming two race of R-12 and how the poor New Hampshire outing is going to affect his chances of making into R-8.
