The NASCAR Cup Series race at last Sunday witnessed a wild duel between 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman. It all started with the No:23 Toyota Camry’s aggressive blocking, the then turn into sending the No:48 Chevy Camero to the wall and eventually the latter getting spun out.
Though the duo squashed the beef with a friendly post-race confrontation, but many in the racing community didn’t think the beef was actually over. The likes of Kyle Busch claimed that the duo aren’t as close as many think owing to the aggressive racing. Bubba Wallace addressed thus situation and asserted that they are good. They had dinner together with the 23XI driver paying for it.
We get to the hotel for dinner two nights ago now, and he’s waiting to get seated right in front of us. I just come up, give a big bear hug and told him again, ‘Hey, we’re good. Nothing’s wrong.’ And so the hotel we’re at, a lot of (NASCAR) industry people are there. My dinner was bought by somebody else, so I paid for Bowman’s dinner. It just kind of felt right.

In the same conversation, Bubba Wallace lamented about his wrong decision and admitted that he prioritised the short-term gain in the in-season challenge over and missed out on 20+ points that could have increased his point standing. His rookie mentality during the duel cost him big time and put him in poor position coming into this week.
This factor was really disappointing for Wallace, and he admitted that he has been sulking over the Alex Bowman clash till Wednesday. But he worked on himself and got over it, getting him back to good mood in the last couple of days. At the same time, he also admitted that he was would have acted very different if the same situation happened in 2024.
Like Monday, Tuesday, I was pretty down — and mad at myself, right? And then like, oops — I made a mistake doing something else around the house. And it’s like the magnitude is different, but still, a mistake’s a mistake, so you just move on. It’s been fine the last couple days. But yeah, I would say it’d be totally different last year.
Bubba Wallace added.
Alex Bowman shared his thoughts on media portrayal the beef
The Hendrick Motorsports driver shared his thoughts on the situation ahead of the Sonoma race weekend. He asserted that the media wanted the beef to go a different direction, but he doesn’t have any issues with Wallace, as they have had good conversation post-race as well as in a dinner this week.

I think the media definitely wanted that to go in a direction that it didn’t go. Yeah, we talked after the race and I saw him the other night at dinner. I think we’re all good.
Alex Bowman said.
Further talking about the situation, he admitted that he hates the fact that he eventually wrecked the Toyota driver. The No:48 Chevy driver added that he understands how the bracket challenge inspired the racer to fight hard.
Like, I certainly hate that he got wrecked. I don’t think that much contact was necessary in that situation. But I also understand that he’s trying to race for the bracket challenge and finish the best he can. Kind of is what it is. And he bought me dinner the other night, so we’re good. I’ll move on from it.
Alex Bowman added.
The comments from the two racer shows they have a good dynamic among them despite the fact that they have had some wild run-ins over the years. This incident might happen more often in the coming days considering both drivers are currently racing on the same level desperate to end their long winless streak and secure playoff spot.
