23XI Racing star driver Bubba Wallace, who won the last weekends race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is one of the most divisive figures of the sport. One major reason behind this divide is the limelight that is on the driver because he is the biggest representative of the African-American community ever in in the sport.
It was one of the leading narratives in the media headlines, after Bubba Wallace’s Brickyard 400 win. The TRD driver is not a fan of these racial narratives, as being a biracial personal he loves both of his side. Addressing the controversies over these narratives, the veteran driver asserted that he isn’t someone that use ‘I’m the Black driver.’ notion.
He then addressed the media that used the connotation in their headlines, and pointed out that he didn’t like the, though he doesn’t mean any disrespect. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t embracing this aspect of his racing, as it plays a significant role in his stardom and the sponsorship leverage he has over other drivers.
That’s not, I never lead off with ‘I’m the Black driver.’ No disrespect to you guys [in the media], but a lot of the headlines you start off with that. That’s what I was saying. Like, yes guys, I know it’s out there every time I do something. Just embrace it, like you have to enjoy it.

Further talking about the point, Bubba Wallace pointed out that the narrative gives ammo to his haters, who uses the title to downplay his achievements. Hence he is embracing the complicated aspect of life and is determined to be the competitive NASCAR driver, instead getting involved in the drama.
Of course, people flip it and say like, ‘All he cares about is being Black.’ And that’s not what I was saying. That’s neither here nor there. I love my Black side, love my white side. Love that I’m competitive, and I’m able to showcase that at the highest level in NASCAR.

Amanda Wallace helped Bubba Wallace to make a comeback in 2025
The start of the 2025 season witnessed a string and consistent Bubba Wallace, before bad luck caught up with him in the third race month. This put a lot of pressure on the TRD drivers’ shoulders and his wife Amada Wallace, who was new mom after having their son Becks before the season, wasn’t happy.

So, she decided to step up, and put some sense back into her husband. Amanda push Bubba Wallace to get his stuff together, and influenced him to work hard before the Indy race, helping him get his focus back, finally securing the race win he was desperately seeking.
After Chicago, it was unfortunate how that played out. All of it my doing. My wife was very upset with me. I was eye-opening to me, she basically said get your stuff together. I don’t want to see you in the spot you’ve been for so many year. I said I’ll win Indy, there you go.
