The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has been impressive for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing. They have won the first three races of the year, owing to Tyler Reddick’s record-breaking masterclass, placing him P1 in the points table. Bubba Wallace also hasn’t disappointed, as he currently sits P2, owing to impressive consistency.
It’s the first time in his career, the 23XI Toyota driver has found himself having such strong streak at the start of the season and the No:23 team is determined to continue taking advantage of the momentum. Talking about his strong runs, Wallace pointed out that the key to their success has been hitting all the goals they set for themselves in the off-season.
I’ve always said at the start of every year that I want to be out of the headlines. I always find myself in it, and I’m assuming that’s just my personality. I say one thing and it takes off or I do one thing and it takes off. So, I’ve just been trying to hit on everything we’ve talked about in the offseason of what we need to do better.
Bubba Wallace said recently.
Further talking about the point, the veteran racer highlighted how race management was the biggest point of discussion for him and the crew in the off-season. With the improvements, they have been able to raise their expected standard, and Bubba Wallace now has a car that can earn him good pints even on the bad days.
It comes down to managing races. The biggest thing that stood out in the conversation between myself, Charles [Denike, crew chief], and Dave Rogers [23XI performance director] was our floor to ceiling ratio is way too big. We need to raise the floor on the bad days and keep raising the ceiling for when it’s our good days and make sure, we’re on top.
Bubba Wallace added via SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Another key point the 2025 Brickyard 500 champion had in mind was the DNF’s. He failed to finish the race a disappointing nine times last year and one of the main reasons for that was the fact that their cars were not as good as expected. Now with the good pace, they are able get themselves in position safe from situation where probability of incidents are higher.
We had nine DNFs last year and so, just trying to clean up the things we wanted to has just been the start of it. Having fast race cars goes with it as well, and it allows you to focus on that stuff a little bit easier and let all the outside stuff sit on its place.
Bubba Wallace added.
Bubba Wallace is ready to sacrifice a race win to see his second son’s birth
Just like last year, Bubba Wallace is going to be a dad in 2026 and this year he had made his priorities clear to his team. The veteran had to miss out on the birth of his first child last year due to racing commitments, and it was big regret for him. Hence ahead of the 2026 season, he had made it clear with his team that he will got to be with his wife, even during a race when he is leading, if he gets the call.

I had told the team before the season started, ‘Hey, look. Priorities have changed. I’ve grown up, I’m a one-time dad, about to be a two-time dad, I missed my first birth. I really don’t want to miss the second one. I’m letting you guys know that seeing my boy or girl that is born, that’s [my] number one priority. If we just so happen to be leading the race coming down [to] 50 to go and we get the call, I’m pulling in. The importance of seeing this for me is [high].
Bubba Wallace said.
This shows the commitment he has for his family and everyone in the NASCAR garage will associate with that feeling. There are multiple drivers in the garage that missed out on their child birth due to racing and Wallace doesn’t want to be part of it. It would be interesting to see how the 2026 season and life is going to playout for the veteran.
