Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar is considered by many as one of the biggest talents in the sport and some even call him the next Dale Earnhardt Sr. The comparisons are the primary product of the youngster’s’ aggressive racing style. Not everyone is a fan of these comments and that include the Chevy driver himself.
On his latest discussion with YouTuber Erik Estep, the racer admitted that he doesn’t really love the comparisons, though it is a major honor. He pointed out that he is someone that hasn’t yet made it into the victory lane and the comparisons are being made because of external factor, not his racing success. If the same parameter is applied, HMS’ NOAPS driver Corey Day also deserves that tag.
I don’t even really like the comparison. I mean, I appreciate it obviously, but I feel like we’ve probably should have won a race now. There are a lot of things that have taken us out of contention of those. But I’m like, every now and again, run into people, and now I’m running a black car here and there. I don’t really see it. I mean we were joking. I was like, I love Corey Day. Like, I’m a big fan of his, but I was like, he’s Dale Earnhardt, too.
Carson Hocevar said about the comparisons.
The racer pointed out that embracing the comparison is good for him in a business sense, as it will help him to sell more merch and attract sponsors. Carson Hocevar just wants to build a legacy for himself, with his name, as he knows at the of the day there is nothing, he could achieve that will put him on the same pedestal as Dale Sr.
He’s been running into people and everything. It’s a good business decision to maybe sell some t-shirts, but number one, even if I won everything, even if I have 10 cup wins and we had a shot to win a championship last year, like nobody’s the next Dale. I mean, I’ve been sitting here in every interview. I just want to be me. It’s a lot easier.
Carson Hocevar added via Erik Estep’s YouTube channel.
Later talking about the same topic, during his media session ahead of the Darlington race, Carson Hocevar highlighted how the comparison of him and Dale Sr. has evolved the wrong way. At the start, the discussion was only about his non-apologetic racing style, but when some started equate their driving skills, the claims lost credibility.
I’m just driving how I want to drive. I don’t really love the comparisons and what they turned into… It started by not just apologizing after running into people and being really aggressive. Then it turned into I’m as good as him. I don’t know where that came from.
Carson Hocevar said ahead of Darlington race week.

Dave Moody shuts down Dale Earnhardt and Carson Hocevar comparisons
NASCAR insider Dave Moody has recently given the best argument on why the Hocevar-Earnhardt comparison is pointless. He asserted that no one is the next Dalr Sr., as no one will ever be able to replace the seven times champion and highlighted how the comparison started with the novelty factor of aggressive racing.

Nobody is “the next Dale Earnhardt.” Even Dale Jr. should not have been asked to carry that load of expectation. There was only one Dale Sr., and there will never be another.

He is right to make this assertion, as Earnhardt’s legacy can never be replicated and in the long-run this comparison will hurt the legacy of Carson Hocevar. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star racer in the coming days.
