Carson Hocevar had a night to forget at Daytona International Speedway. The Spire Motorsports driver will not make it to the Playoffs this season after being forced to retire from the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Hocevar was not in a good mood after he stopped the car, as the Chevrolet star lashed out on the tow truck driver.
It was all to play for, at Daytona for Carson Hocevar. The Chevrolet star needed to win the race to secure a spot in the Playoffs. Despite keeping it clean at the start of the race, Hocevar will leave empty handed. The engine of the No. 77 car gave up on Lap 84, leading to the fifth caution of the race.
Carson Hocevar was waiting for the NASCAR tow truck to move him out of the track. However, as the tow truck driver took time to reach, the Spire Motorsports driver went on a profanity-laced rant, pointing out that there were flashlights on-track to guide the truck.
They have flashlights showing him where to go. … This stupid f**k.
Carson Hocevar said on team radio.
Hocevar is waiting for the tow truck to push him into the DVP area and is sitting on pit road.

It is clear that emotions were running high for the No. 77 driver at that moment. His engine failure not only ended his race, but even his chances for the Playoffs. This virtually ends his 2025 campaign after the Spire Motorsports driver pushed himself to the limit throughout the season. Such outbursts are not unusual in the world of racing in such situations.
Carson Hocevar goes on X after shocking Daytona ending
The No. 77 driver had tried to do his best at Daytona International Speedway. Carson Hocevar was aware that everything was at stake in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 this time around. The Spire Motorsports driver even managed to stay out of trouble on-track and made past a wreck without incurring any major damage to his car. Unfortunately, luck was simply not on Hocevar’s side.

The Chevrolet driver wrote on X that he was disappointed with the way the race ended. This was Hocevar’s second Cup season. It would’ve been incredible to see the 22-year-old make it to the business end of the tournament with his first career win. However, he will now have to wait till the next season.
Disappointing.

Though, Carson Hocevar can take one positive from the weekend. The way the Spire Motorsports driver managed to steer clear from cars ahead in a wreck, was met with praise from the pit road. Though, this incident did lead to some damage on the front of his car, which might’ve played a role in the engine failure.
We guess @CarsonHocevar has done this a time or two on @iRacing. 🤷♂️🤷🤷♀️ pic.twitter.com/z8NOvfdYoM

Certainly, Carson Hocevar could’ve had a good run in the Playoffs had he managed to win in Daytona this time around. Nevertheless, the Spire Motorsports driver left his mark in the regular season, be it for his impressive runs or overly aggressive moves on some occasions. The No. 77 driver managed to take a couple of Top 5 finishes this season, not a bad result for just his second Cup campaign. However, Hocevar would hope to improve much more in 2026 and ensure that he grabs a spot in the Playoffs.
