The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway witnessed some chaotic moments and Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar was in the middle most of it. Many criticised him for the aggressive move, while some compared him to seven times champion Dale Earnhardt, over the racing style.
Hall of Famer Richard Petty was one of the big names to make the Carson Hocevar-Dale Sr. comparison. When asked about the comparison on the Gluckcast podcast, the young Chevy driver admitted that he is happy with the comments but insisted that he isn’t looking into becoming someone else.
I did and it’s super cool. I love old races, like, I love 2000s, 1990s, even the 80s. So, it’s been really cool. I didn’t even know Rick Mast had a podcast, and he talked about it. I get tagged in all these clips, you know, and I was just kind of laughing, and I made the joke to my buddy because I was like, ‘Hey, I might not be everybody’s favorite driver, but I’m their favorite driver’s favorite driver.’
Carson Hocevar said via the Gluckcast.
Furthermore, he asserted that he doesn’t want to pretend like a famous racer from the past to make a career for himself. He insisted that he has no plans to be intentionally super aggressive and play mind games with other drivers during races. Hocevar is racing the way he likes and the way that earned him race wins in the lower divisions.
I don’t know, I’m just out there racing. I’m not out there, like, ‘Which famous race car driver am I gonna play pretend today about?’ I’m just racing, and I am gonna be super aggressive, and I’m not thinking how I can play mental mind games and get away with this or how can I do this. I’m just getting after it.
Carson Hocevar added.
Carson Hocevar explained why he didn’t apologize to Christopher Bell unlike Ryan Blaney
In the same podcast, the youngster explained why he didn’t apologize to Christopher Bell for the late race Atlanta wreck. He feels it was nothing more than a racing incident and asserted that he doesn’t care much about the noise over the wreck. Though from the outside it seems the No:77 was at fault as he caused the wreck by going for gap that wasn’t wide enough to make a move.

I feel like we’re racing. I don’t know what me saying anything would do for him. I don’t really like the conversation stuff. I feel like if he has to race me harder, me saying anything is not really going to change that. …I feel like everything is on the racetrack, and the rest is just noise.
Carson Hocevar said.
In the same discussion, he explained why he apologized to 2023 champion Ryan Blaney unlike to Bell. He admitted that he was predominately to blame for their run-ins and wanted to explain to the Ford driver why he was over aggressive in those moments.
I texted Blaney because I don’t like that stuff, even when I’m on the receiving end…Actions mean a lot more on the racetrack. I texted Blaney mainly because I was fighting demons in my race car at that point, and I pounded the fence in front of him. I just wanted to let him know why I did that.
Carson Hocevar added.
The young Spire driver has made multiple enemies after the first two races of the season and if he doesn’t clear the air with them, revenge will come their way. There are multiple veteran drivers that are looking for an opportunity to wreck him and Hocevar needs to aware of it.
