The NASCAR Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway on Saturday was full of action. Things took a dramatic turn in the final stage of the race as Layne Riggs tried to make a move on race leader Carson Hocevar. The two drivers made contact with one another before sliding onto the wall. While Hocevar managed to retain the lead and win the race, Riggs accused the Spire Motorsports driver of flipping him off.

With two laps to go in the race, the incident unfolded. Layne Riggs clipped Hocevar into Turn 1. As the two cars made contact with the wall, Carson Hocevar managed to stay ahead of Riggs and take the win. Ultimately, Riggs was disqualified from the race due to a failed bed cover during post-race inspection.

After the race, Layne Riggs claimed that the No. 77 driver purposely ‘flipped him off’ all the way down to the frontstretch. The Front Row Motorsports driver acknowledged that Hocevar was likely mad at him for the incident.

Yet, he could not believe why the 22-year-old was so angry even after he went on to clinch victory. Riggs insisted that he was not hurt by the entire ordeal. Rather, he claimed that this showed that he was on the right track to make it to the Cup Series in the future.

He won the race and I think he was mad at me. I think he flipped me off all the way down the frontstretch coming to the checkered. But how can you be mad when you win the race, right? But it’s all good. It’s great racing with Cup cars and I think that just proves that I’m going to be there one day.

Layne Riggs told FOX.

Carson Hocevar reveals reason for ‘flipping off’ Layne Riggs

While Riggs was in a serious mood over the incident, not understanding why he received the middle finger from the race winner, Carson Hocevar had a completely different approach. The Spire Motorsports driver claimed that he was just looking to give some entertainment to fans.

Hocevar asked if fans were happy with this rather peculiar way to entertain them following a race. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that Layne Riggs did an impressive job on-track. Carson Hocevar was happy to be pushed to the finish line by Riggs this time around, claiming that it had been some time since he really had to fight for victory on the final lap.

I just thought I’d make it entertaining Were you all entertained? But no, that No. 34 truck [Riggs] was super, super good. This truck was really good on the short runs. I didn’t think he would get to us for how far back he was, but he was super good. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a finish like that where it’s just all out there. So, credit to him. I know he was going for everything there. I was shocked. I thought I threw it away.

Carson Hocevar said post-race.

Certainly, Carson Hocevar was impressed by Layne Riggs performance. Despite the two making contact, it did not lead to a wreck. Rather, both drivers were able to continue after what became just a minor setback.

It was a shame that Riggs was disqualified and lost out on a second-place finish. Nevertheless, the Front Row Motorsports driver understands that he can be right up there with the big names in the Cup Series soon if he continues his successful run.
