Chandler Smith reveals he was “preparing to go work for his dad” in construction after JGR exit
Ex-Joe Gibbs Racing driver Chandler Smith has finally found a seat for the 2025 season, after a tough 2024 owing the uncertainty.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup season was yet another hit and miss in the title chase for Chandler Smith, which has been the story of his career so far. He ended the season P3 in the table, with three wins and an impressive nine top-5 finishes in the last 10 races of the Xfinity season. But despite all these achievements, he almost ended up with out a seat for 2025.
Joe Gibbs Racing decided to let the driver go, despite his consistency as their 2025 line-up was already stacked. Chandler Smith was desperately looking for a seat for the next-season and now he can finally exhale. The 22-year-old has revealed that he has landed a ride for the upcoming season and the announcement is coming soon.
In the same conversation, he also revealed that he was almost out of racing and into construction towards the end of the season. He prepared to work for his dad’s construction company to provide for his wife and kids, but fortunately was able to land a seat to continue pursuing his dream of making big in racing.

Having no seat for the 2025 season was a bog distraction for Smith while chasing for the championship. But he overcame the feeling to give everything he could for the team on the track, trusting God will take care of the rest for him and it seems his dedication paid off.
The comment from Smith shows the huge pressure that was on his shoulders in the 2024 season and how he survived that with his faith. It will be interesting to see where Smith will drive in the 2025 season and how he would perform with them.
