Chase Briscoe was unable to emerge victorious at the Championship finale at Phoenix. Despite performing great all throughout the playoffs, his performance in the last race was mediocre. As such, he lost the Cup Series title to Kyle Larson. Now, Briscoe asserts that his championship loss to the Hendrick star is difficult to accept for him.

Chase Briscoe‘s winning chances were diminished from the moment he had a mediocre outing during Qualifying and started the race from P12. Further, he couldn’t put up a dominant show during the main race against the likes of Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson and was unable to win the Cup Series title. Moreover, despite gaining some positions on track, he could only finish in P18, further destroying his championship chances.

Still, Chase Briscoe was delighted by the fact that he could achieve a comeback in terms of track positions and still remain relatively competitive. However, he couldn’t quite win the title in his first championship-4 entry and hence was disappointed about it. Briscoe accepted that his title defeat was difficult to swallow in some senses.

Briscoe pointed out that it would be even more difficult to deal with as days went by, because the race outcome would’ve been different if he had run P15 all day long. He believed that he had a realistic shot at winning the race and the title, but he couldn’t quite win it because of the issues in the car. The #19 driver recalled that he went from the back of the grid to the front multiple times throughout the race.

It’s hard to swallow in a sense, Like, as the days go on, it gets even tougher because it would be different if we ran 15th all day. But I feel like we were capable of winning and just didn’t get to show it with all the issues. We went from the back to the front like two or three different times.

Chase Briscoe reveals ‘question mark’ in the tire pit stop strategy

Multiple drivers were caught off guard with an untimely caution thrown in the race because of William Byron‘s collision in the final stages of the race. During the said caution, Chase Briscoe pitted for four qualifying scruff tires instead of just two. This pit call even caused Denny Hamlin to ultimately lose the title. As such, Briscoe reckoned that he should’ve let James Small trust his gut and make the final call.

Chase Briscoe insisted that he would have rather been on offense during the Phoenix race, especially during the final caution. He wished that he had not talked James Small out of pitting for two tires and allowed him to stick to his gut of using four of them.

As such, Briscoe reckoned that this would always remain a big question mark, as he wondered what would’ve happened had he pitted for four tires. The 30-year-old accepted that this was burning him up, as he could’ve let Small trust his gut.

I would personally rather be on offense, and I just wish that he would have obviously not let me talk him out of it, Who knows? You never know. It’s the question mark of what would have happened. So that’s the only thing that, I guess, is kind of burning me up is the tire issues we had and that I wish I would have let James trust his gut.

Chase Briscoe noted.

The 2025 season has culminated regardless of Chase Briscoe’s regret now. The Phoenix race was certainly one of the more entertaining races, and all four drivers equally deserved the championship win. Although the playoff formats are being criticized now more than ever, they caused some great racing action on Sunday. For now, Briscoe will hope to quickly move on from the struggles on Sunday and start afresh in the 2026 season.
