NASCAR is a complex sport. The stock car racing series is not as easy as it looks with teams trying to get an edge in whatever way possible. One thing that often comes under discussion is the rule set. Many consider that the sport should go back to its old-school era where driver performance made the real difference. The new gen NASCAR cars divided opinions amongst fans and the field. However, Chase Elliot insists that the sport will never be able to make everyone happy.
Elliot, who races for HMS in the Cup Series was recently asked about his views on the NASCAR regulations. The 29-year-old took a diplomatic approach, emphasizing that there was no real answer for such a question. Chase Elliot pointed out that at the end of the day, he or other drivers are not involved in forming the rules for the series. Moreover, he made it clear that no matter what rules are formed, someone or the other would not be pleased.
I don’t run the show and I don’t have all of these answers either. But yeah, I don’t know what the right direction is, what would be a fix-all, if there even is a fix-all. My honest opinion on it is that no matter what we have, someone is going to complain about something. That’s the truth of the matter.
Chase Elliot said via @ClairBLang/X.
The regulations of the sport are decided by NASCAR. The officials do take inputs from teams and drivers, however, the ultimate authority lies with the sport. Chase Elliot reaffirmed this to all ‘experts’ who try to give their opinion where the sport should be headed in the future.
I don’t care how good it is or how bad it is, there will always be negativity and Monday morning quarterbacking. What type of car configuration that every expert across the country thinks it should be. Newsflash to them and all of us that don’t run the show is that we don’t run the show. It’s upto NASCAR to make those decisions.
Chase Elliot added.
He has got his nose to the grindstone – working with his @TeamHendrick team to get better every week. @chaseelliott answer when asked his view on short track fix, tires, car config old school vs new school solutions etc. etc. in media avail this week was clear. Honest answer… pic.twitter.com/nq1jbCa8Lb

Chase Elliot only focused on results
The HMS driver claimed that if NASCAR ever reached out to him for his views, he would gladly give his opinion over the regulations. However, the 29-year-old made it clear that till such a scenario unfolds, he will not be putting thought into such affairs. Rather, Chase Elliot will simply do his job at HMS, get in the car and aim for the best result possible at every race.

If someone in NASCAR calls me and asks for my opinion, I will be happy to answer the phone and give my opinion and my two cents on it, and go from there. Until something like that happens, I just show up each week and try to make most of whatever rules package, entire configuration you know. All of the above that I can do to extract the best performance I can for my team because that’s all that I can control.
Chase Elliot noted.
The 29-year-old understands that at the end of the day, regulations don’t matter once he is inside the cockpit of his car. It doesn’t matter which car they are driving as long as they can fight for victory. Though, regulations became an emotional subject for fans, with many nostalgic about the sport’s older cars, which they had seen growing up.
Thus, it is a fine line to balance when it comes to the sport’s regulations. NASCAR must take into account the views of the fans, while also ensuring that the rule-set remains relevant for its manufacturers.
