Historically Motorsport most of the time comes at the wrong side when it comes to the matters of sustainable energy or scrapping the use of fossil fuels for environmental concerns but recently there has been a lot of changes around the globe ongoing sustainable. The Formula E, Extreme E are a few examples of motorsport racing championships that are offering new solutions.
NASCAR has always has been about the speed, the sound, and performance where the calls for sustainable energy sources have been limited but now with the world-changing around it, NASCAR has also been in preparation to be more sustainable. The net generation cars which made their debut in 2022 are built keeping Hybrid and electronic capabilities in mind.
Now amidst the growing request from manufacturers Ford, Cheverly, and Toyota to introduce electric cars newly promoted NASCAR chief of operations Steve O’Donnell has said that the association is “exploring some opportunities” to produce an exhibition series featuring electric cars.

Steve O’Donnell acknowledged that NASCAR is exploring some opportunities around an exhibition series that features electric cars considering the importance of hits. He went on to add that there is an increasing push from the original manufacturers as well as the new partners in this matter.
“We are exploring some opportunities around an exhibition series in that space (Electric car). And as everyone knows, there’s a huge push across all of our (original equipment manufacturer) partners, and even potentially new OEM partners. So, it’s important for us to explore that space. I think there’s a lot of interest from our current partners to be part of that,” Steve O’Donnell said.
Steve O’Donnell also addressed fans’ concern that the introduction of electric cars will make racing less interesting saying the new race that will debut will fit the NASCAR portfolio and will be entertaining and something to be proud of for the fans.
“But for us, the race has to be entertaining. Our fans, love noise. They love the sound, the feel of racing. So, if we’re going to get into the electric space, I promise you, it will be entertaining, and it’ll be something that fits into our portfolio and something our fans will be proud of,” says Steve O’Donnell.
NASCAR will hit the Phoenix Raceway, Avondale for Ruoff Mortgage 500, the 4th race of the Cup series in 2022, on 14 March
