The NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway ended up being a massive disappointment for Chris Buescher. He was on the cutline for the playoffs, but once Austin Dillon secured the win on Sunday over Ryan Blaney and Alex Bowman, he found himself outside the last 16. He is now in a must-win situation going into Daytona, for the regular season finale.
Talking about the same, after the poor P30 finish in the Cook Out 400 starting the race on P12, Chris Buescher shared his thoughts on the must-win plate race challenge ahead of them and the performance at the 0.75-mile track yesterday. He admitted that he had a bad day, with a car that wasn’t competitive enough.
Just a bad day. We just weren’t very good. That just was not competitive enough. And I have no clue where we even finished at this point, but obviously it doesn’t really matter.
Chris Buescher said via Bob Pockrass.
He than talked about the 26th race of the year, admitted that going into a Superspeedway race, where luck and wrecks takes the centre stage, in order fight to get into the playoff puts him in a terrible position. But being a former winner at the venue gives him the hope and positivity required to put on a fight.
We are in a must-win heading into Daytona. It’s a terrible spot to be in for a plate race. I know we’ll be fast, but so many wild things can happen. We won it before, we’ll certainly regroup from this one and get ready to go.

The feelings about 2024 and 2025 winless run are different for Chris Buescher
The star driver found himself in a similar must-win situation in the 2024 season. He was winless through the 26 regular season events, and despite putting in his everything, failed to make it into the playoffs on points. He though was able to redeem himself with a win at Watkins Glen in R-16, but it was too late. He talked about it all ahead of Richmond race.

We know where we are at in the fight for a playoff spot. A win is the way to guarantee your way in but this year we have to be aware of our bubble. As much as I hate to admit that, it is where we have found ourselves.
Chris Buescher said.
Further talking about the point, Buescher asserted that he had the opportunity not take too much risks and produce races focussed on earning more points for the past few weeks, considering their chances of winning were low. Bit now that ship has sailed and the no:17 Ford Mustang team has np choice but to win their way into the playoffs.
I think where you maybe take a step back and start thinking about the point side more specifically than the race win is through any adversity on the day. When your chance of winning has diminished then maybe there is a Plan B that’s probably more thought through than maybe it would have been several months ago for us.
Chris Buescher added.
The veteran driver won at Daytona, three years ago, but he was on hot form that season, with it being his third win. But now RFK is in a different situation, and he has no reliable momentum to use, while fighting all the no-winner of the season including his teammates Brad Keselowski and Ryan Preece to win races.
