The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season has been defined by the battle between the elite teams of Joe Gibbs and Rick Hendrick. Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports has been contenders for the win in every race so far this season, and other than two wins that slipped away, the Chevy-Toyota duo has won all the races.
Alongside Denny Hamlin, who has won three races so far this season, Christopher Bell has been the best for JGR with his two wins. But unlike his veteran teammate, Bell’s season hasn’t been smooth as between the two wins, the No:20 Camary driver has had a long streak of underwhelming runs and results.
Hence, the former Truck Series champion is disappointed with the overall output of the No:20 team. Jhe pointed out that though it is an amazing feeling to have won two races midway to the season, it’s extremely disappointing considering the other finishes he has had this year. From the 14 races so far he has just three top-5s and has finished outside the top-30 five times.
Honestly, this No. 20 team is at a really good spot because now we’re sitting halfway through the regular season with two wins, which is amazing, but we’ve been extremely disappointed with how our season has gone.Christopher Bell said via Motorsports.com.
Christopher Bell wants to have five- or ten-win seasons
While further talking about his inconsistency, Bell highlighted that his crew is capable of pulling multiple wins a season. He claimed that he would like to someone that wins five or ten races a year consistently and not be someone with a couple of wins a season.
I think that just goes to show that the ceiling is there, and the capability of this team is there. We haven’t been performing like we want to, but if we put all of it together, we can certainly be a contender week-in and week-out …That’s the end goal. I don’t want to be just a one- or two-win-a-year person. I want to be a five- to 10-win-a-year person.Christopher Bell said.
Bell, who is the only driver to make to the Championship-4 twice in the Next-Gen era, still has a lot of races left in the season for redemption and get back his consistency. The Coke 600-win last week though came because of rain, will give him the much-needed momentum for the rest of the races.
