Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell was the most inform driver at the start of the 2025 Cup Series season, winning three back-to-back races. But since then, the team has been on the back foot, as they haven’t won a single race and other than a couple of top 5 runs, they haven’t been contenders as consistent as they used to be.

Christopher Bell secured top 10 finishes in the Southern 500 as well as the Gateway Cup race on Sunday. But the Toyota racer is disappointed with himself and the team, over the fact that he can’t even crack the top 5 while his teammate Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin won the last two races. In both weeks he had fast Camry’s but failed to match expectations.

The frustration boiled over for him after Sunday’s race where he went on radio rant, with multiple F-bombs, something he isn’t known for. It happened after crew chief Adam Stevens came on team radio to congratulate him for securing good points with the P7 finish and took the pressure of him for the coming week at Bristol.

For someone like Bell, who is hungrier for race wins he has ever been, the comments felt like gut punch. He called out himself and his own team for celebrating a P7 finish, highlighting how they have been producing underwhelming results in the last two weeks compared to his teammates despite having fast cars.

Adam Stevens: That’s what we needed today. Take off the pressure next week. Good job guys.

Christopher Bell: We just f***ing ran 7th with the best car on the track! Every f***ing week it’s the same s**t! We’re the last car to pit road! I’m over it!

Christopher Bell confesses he is underperforming with a fast car

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver shared similar sentiment on his post-race interview. He admitted that they have been underperforming a lot recently despite having fast Camry’s. The racer admitted that the 2025 cars are the best he has ever driven and not performing on elite level as he should with them was really concerning for him.

I just think we are under-performing. Clearly, the JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) Camrys are amazing, and I don’t know. Our team cars are really good, and I felt like I had what I needed to race with them, and we finished seventh and they finished 1-2. I honestly think the cars are as fast as I’ve had in my Cup career, and we are just not getting results out of it.

Furthermore, he admitted that though it was a bummer result, he is happy about the good points haul they had, giving him buffer to the cutline. He sees this as the only, yet pretty significant, positive from the Gateway Cup Series race weekend.

That is a bummer, but on a lighter note – we had a good points day and were able to increase our buffer to the cutline, which is really good. I think from that standpoint mission accomplished. We had a great Camry, just didn’t get the finish that we probably could’ve and should’ve.

Christopher Bell added.

The comments from the JGR driver shows how much he is hating the lack of front row finishes from the No:20 team compared to his teams. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for TRD team and how many more race weeks they have to wait before winning another event.
