The NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway witnessed luck running out for Joe Gibbs Racing’s star driver Christopher Bell. While his teammate Denny Hamlin secured an impressive win in the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400, the No:20 Toyota finished at P18 and that performance left him disappointed in himself.

Christopher Bell started the season strong, leading 67 laps and securing the stage two win before things went south for him. He spun out on his own while he was on the lead in the last stage of the race and found himself in the back of grid. But before the one-hour rain caused red flag delay, he was able to get into the leading pack by staying out during the pit-cycle.

But his luck ran out once the race restarted with just nine laps left, as during an intense dule for lead with his teammate Denny Hamlin, he spun out on his own yet again, ending any hope, he had. Talking about this, he admitted that every driver was determined to not to lift in the finale laps and it was a bummer that he pushed the car a little too much at the moment.

I definitely wasn’t going to lift and I knew he wasn’t going to lift either. We were gonna race really hard, and I just spun out. Dover and spinning out — I’ve got a problem with that. It’s a bummer.

Christopher Bell told NASCAR on TNT (Motorsports.com).

With the win, Denny Hamlin has become the fourth driver to win three races in 2025, alongside Bell, Kyle Larson and Shane van Gisbergen. The TRD driver is happy for his veteran teammate as well as Chase Briscoe secured good finishes. But that isn’t enough to reduce his disappointment as he underdelivered in a fast car.

I’m glad that JGR still won the race. Denny did a great job, obviously. He always does, closing these things out. Chase [Briscoe] got a good finish, and yeah, great day for company. Disappointed in myself for making so many mistake, but our speed was really good.

Christopher Bell is still proud of his teams’ effort

Further talking about the situation earlier, Bell asserted that his team did a solid job to have a good race and he is proud of the strong performance his team has been able to produce on the intermediate tracks. The have been struggling a bit in the 1.5 miles tracks before this week.

The guys did a really good job. I’m honestly proud of the effort that this team has put into trying to improve. The intermediate stuff has been a little hard for us, and the guys on this #20 team did a really good job bringing really good pace this weekend.

He finally got a car he was confident in the track, after a long-time and was able to get back to consistently racing upfront after the poor road course racing stint. Bell at the end of the day is happy with 19 playoff points he collected.

I felt like we were as strong as any of them. We restarted on the front row with under 10 to go and had a shot at it. It didn’t work out, but we got a playoff point. Hopefully, we can keep bringing that speed and I can be in contention more often.

Christopher Bell added.

The comments from Bell shows he is more determined than ever going into the next weekend, and convert his semi-redemption this week to solid results from the upcoming weeks. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver.
