The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at COTA was wild, and for the third straight race of the year, Corey Day was in the middle of chaos. In the final lap of the race, he wrecked Trackhouse Racing Cup rookie Connor Zilisch, in the JRM Chevy. The pole sitter was making comeback, after losing him momentum earlier due to a brae rotor issue.

The JR Motorsports racer was absolutely furious after becoming the victim of Corey Day, who has been involved in similar wreck in the previous races at Daytona and Atalanta, making the racing community to call him out. Connor Zilisch went on a rant on his team radio, calling out Day for being an “hack”.

Corey Day is a hack. Absolute hack.

On his post-race interview, the Red Bull sponsored driver continued his criticism and slammed the Rick Hendrick sponsored driver for costing him a top 5 finishing opportunity. He highlighted how Day has learned how to drive clean, as he can’t continue to get away with being involved in incidents week in and week out.

I think everyone saw what happened. I don’t need to explain myself. But really unfortunate. Our Roto Rooter Chevrolet was really fast. We had to change the left rear brake and the entire caliper. I hate that it ended like that for us. We were going to finish top 5 there. Same guy every week that does this. Hopefully he can figure it out. But, yeah, unfortunate.

Connor Zilisch said in his post-race interview.

Furthermore, the Chevy driver demanded an apology from the HMS prodigy instead of reaming silent. The young racer has already shifted his focus to the Cup race, hoping to give a genuine fight for the win in the top division, in the road course event where he will have an advantage due to his experience and Trackhouse backing.

All I want is an apology. But the guy just stands over there and stares at me, and just makes it worse. But he’ll figure it out. And, you know, we’ll go on to tomorrow and try to have a better day tomorrow.

Connor Zilisch added.

Corey Day is ready to apologize to Connor Zilisch

On his post-race interview, Day was asked about the incident and the apology demand from Connor Zilisch. He admitted that he won’t get any sympathy after the incident and insisted that it wasn’t an intentional wreck. The youngster also asserted that he is ready to apologize to Zilsich.

So, yeah, I’m going to get no sympathy for I guess that off my track record. But it wasn’t intentional. Didn’t want to wreck him or have that happen. Yeah, I got no problem going over there and talking to him. It was my mistake, whether I had a broken race car or not. I’ll own up to it. I’ll go apologize, no problem.

Corey Day said.

The comments from the young racer are on point, but an apology won’t be enough to change the negative perception he had made for himself the last few days. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the racer in the remaining races of the season with rivals determined to fight back.
