Truck Series star Brent Crews is making a big move in NASCAR. The 17-year-old is launching his own Truck team. When Crews announced his decision to the media, there was some confusion surrounding the role of Connor Zilisch, Jesse Love, and Jack Baldwin. Now, Zilisch has clarified the entire ordeal.

Crews launched Brent Crews Motorsports, a new team in the Truck Series that will make its debut at Watkins Glen. Though, during the announcement, Brent Crews joked that Connor Zilisch and Jesse Love would serve as executives in his garage. The team is running Toyota Trucks, while Zilisch and Love are Chevrolet drivers. Thus, as this joke went viral, Connor Zilisch was forced to address the situation.

The Trackhouse Racing star quoted a post on X over the team announcement. Connor Zilisch admitted that there was some misunderstanding over his role at Brent Crews Motorsport. The Chevrolet driver made it clear that he was going to support Crews solely as a good friend without any official involvement in the team. Moreover, Zilisch reaffirmed his commitment to Chevrolet in the post as well, silencing all speculation over a potential Toyota link.

There was a misunderstanding in conversations with Brent’s new truck team and me being an executive. I’m excited to cheer him on as a friend next weekend at Watkins and I’m pumped to go for 4 in a row this weekend in Iowa with JRM, Chevy, and Trackhouse!

Crews posted on X, claiming that Connor Zilish and Jesse Love are his close aides. The new team owner admitted that they went overboard with the exaggerated claims over their roles in the team. He made it clear that neither Zilisch nor Love will have any designation or involvement in the team’s operations. They were just his friends who had his back.

Connor and Jesse are great friends of mine, but we went a little overboard in exaggerating their roles. To be clear, they have no official capacity, other than they are friends who want me to do well.

At first, the entire situation might just have been a harmless joke, such a mistake cannot be made by drivers like Crews or Zilisch. NASCAR is the pinnacle of American racing, and these drivers must understand that teams and manufacturers are extremely protective about their contracts. Any links that could violate their contracts are taken seriously. Perhaps, Brent Crews and Connor Zilisch were simply immature this time around and this incident will serve as a hard lesson.
