Kyle Larson did not stop at just winning his second Cup Series title in the 2025 season. Rather, he participated in the dirt racing of the Hangtown 100 with Hendrick Motorsports. Notably, HMS also fielded another midget car with Corey Day. Both drivers were hopeful of a battle on track and fighting for an impressive finish at the end. However, things turned out for the worse for both drivers as they suffered from violent crashes in the race.
Corey Day took the first tumble between himself and Kyle Larson. At around Lap 42, Day suffered from a violent wreck in the midget car. The #4 driver touched wheels with Gavin Miller mid-way through the turn and suffered from a streak of violent flips in his car. The track marshals rushed to the car, and Day thankfully walked out of the car unhurt.
It was certainly a shame for Corey Day to suffer from a DNF in the race as he was battling Kyle Larson for the lead and could have achieved great combined results for Hendrick Motorsports. Regardless, after a quick health inspection, Day took to social media and revealed his good health and thanked the fans for their concerns.
Corey Day thanked everyone who checked up on him following his violent wreck. He further thanked the safety marshals and crew present at the Hangtown 100 for keeping him safe following the accident. Day revealed that he was very banged up after the crash, but was doing fine overall. The HMS star has not lost motivation at all as he talked about his unfinished business in the upcoming races in the subsequent weeks.
Thank you to everyone that has checked on me after last night, Thank you to [Arai Americas, Simpson Racing, Ultra Shield, and Placerville Speedway] safety crew for keeping me safe last night. Pretty banged up but overall ok. See you guys this week, [Factory Kahne] and I have some unfinished business.

Kyle Larson opens up on his Hangtown 100 wreck laps after Corey Day’s crash
It was certainly a day to forget for Hendrick Motorsports as both their drivers suffered from brutal wrecks after being the favorites to win the race. At around lap 96 out of 100, Daison Pursley made an ambitious move against Larson and made contact with the latter. The 2025 season Cup Series winner then suffered from around 3.5 rotations before finally hitting the ground and ending his race at such a crucial stage.

Kyle Larson recalled that Pursley surprised him after making the daring move against him, as the former then hit the grease and couldn’t control his car. Larson accepted that it was a bummer, but he did not hold Pursley at full blame since he himself did not leave much space on the track. The two-time Cup Series winner accepted that neither driver wished to crash and would have avoided it had they known the outcome.
He surprised me on entry to one, and then you hit the grease, I kind of had nowhere to go. It’s just a bummer, but I get it, just because my entry was closed off, so he was going to have to pull the trigger right there. Oh well, I guess? I wish it wouldn’t happen, and I’m sure he wishes it wouldn’t happen too.

Still, Kyle Larson was agitated in the heat of the moment and sarcastically clapped at Daison Pursley, who collided with him. Funnily enough, Pursley went on to win the Hangtown 100 when Larson was poised for a stellar race win. However, the Cup Series star has gained a lot of perspective in the 2025 season, and he certainly isn’t going to hold a grudge against the drivers for such matters.
