NASCAR Truck Series star Corey Heim seemed to have a decent run on Saturday at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. The No. 11 driver seemed set to take the win after showing impressive pace throughout the race. However, a late incident with Layne Riggs forced him down the order. Heim was left fuming after the incident and decided to confront his rival.

Corey Heim was leading the race during overtime with Layne Riggs right behind him in second place. As Riggs tried to make a move on the Toyota, the two made contact with Heim’s truck sliding around completely, taking away any chances of a good finish. This allowed Chandler Smith to take victory while Riggs finished in second place.

After the race, Heim was visibly disappointed. The 22-year-old was asked about his thoughts over the run-in. The Toyota driver just wanted to ask Layne Riggs why was such a move necessary as it completely ruined his race. Corey Heim recalled that the No. 34 driver had triggered a similar incident the previous week with Carson Hocevar. This time around, even Riggs lost out on a position.

Just why? More than anything. He tried to do it to the 7 (Hocevar) last week for the win, and mission accomplished for him, I guess, this week – and it cost him one, too. I don’t know.

Corey Heim said post-race.

Following the interview, Corey Heim walked to Layne Riggs in the middle of pitroad. The two exchanged words with Heim visibly furious on his rival. Matters did not escalate as the whole paddock saw what unfolded.

Corey Heim ‘disappointed’ over unfortunate wreck

The 22-year-old was far from happy with the result. On the bright side, Heim acknowledged that Chandler Smith was the deserving winner in the end for managing the race well, without any unnecessary incidents. The same could not be said for Layne Riggs in the eyes of Corey Heim. He further claimed that he was disappointed to get wrecked by Riggs who could’ve used the opportunity in a better manner.

We’ve given up so many of them this year after dominating the race. The 38 (Smith) was the only other guy that was rightfully good. I felt like he deserved to win over anyone else, not the 34 (Riggs). I got really loose into (Turn) 3. Just struggled being loose on the short runs, and he had an opportunity, and he wrecked me. Just disappointed.

Corey Heim explained.

On the other hand, Layne Riggs remained firm on his stance. The No. 34 driver made it clear that he will always be pushing for the win and has no regret over the incident. Riggs is known for aggressive moves in the final stages of races, as he leaves no stone unturned in an attempt to clinch victory.

“If I have a reputation of going for wins, I’m not going to regret that at all. You know, I feel like I came from short-track racing, last-lap battles, and feel like that’s what this kind of racing is made for.

Layne Riggs said, as quoted by NASCAR.

It seems that things between Corey Heim and Layne Riggs will remain difficult for a while now. Both drivers are firm on their respective stances and want the other to change. Though, Heim was the one who really lost out this time around, with Riggs still getting a decent result despite being the one who was more to blame.
