The 2024 NASCAR silly-season is surely getting into hyperdrive with the next-driver announcement made already. Wood Brother Racing has decided to replace Harrison Burton with Josh Berry for the 2025 season and potentially beyond in the No:21 Ford. He is the second outgoing Stewart Haas Racing driver to get a seat, as Chase Briscoe has already signed with JGR.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of the many in the racing community to celebrate the move of Josh Berry to WBR, which is essentially the fourth Team Penske Racing car due to their close association. He highlighted that his former JR Motorsports driver is most deserving of the season and is the consistent winner the Ford team needs.
I’m happy for Josh. It’s my belief he not only belongs in the field on Sunday, but can be a consistent winner. He’s a hard worker, a true racer, and should be a great fit for the Wood Bros. https://t.co/93DH6D8L66

It’s no surprise that Junior is overjoyed to see Berry continuing in the Cup series as he was the one that gave the driver the big NASCAR break. From scouting him in 2010 for late model series to giving him a Xfinity Seat at JRM in 2020, Dale Jr. helped him to showcase his skill and get his place in the top-tier of stock car racing.
Harrison Burton responds to losing the WBR seat
2024 marks the third season Jeff Burton’s son is racing for Wood Brothers’ and other than a handful of good runs, he has never been productive for them. Neither the driver nor the team hasn’t been able to get the best out of the cars and get the 100th Cup race win the team has been dreading for many years. So, Harrison Burton understands the business decision.
Obviously never good news and never news you want to hear as a race car driver. But at the end of the day, that’s the way this business works and we need to put that behind us and we still have a great opportunity to go try and get the Wood Brothers their 100th win this season.Harrison Burton said via X.
He still has 17 races left in the 2024 season to produce results that would help him to land a seat for the 2024 season. It would be interesting to see how the reminder of the current season and the next-year would playout for Berry and Burton.
