Carson Hocevar has emerged as one of the highly talked-about drivers in NASCAR in recent days. Hurricane Hocevar started the 2026 season on the right foot, but it remained far from clean. He was involved in multiple accidents, a few of which were totally his fault. Despite this, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has asked the fans and community to celebrate the Spire Motorsport star’s driving style rather than criticize it.

In recent days, Carson Hocevar was thought to resemble the legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. because of his aggressive driving style. Hocevar does not hesitate to put others on the wall or speak about his mind openly during interviews. This drew criticism towards him, with people claiming that he was overly aggressive, and Earnhardt Sr. did not drive so rashly.

Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has talked on the matter and has surprisingly sided with Carson Hocevar. Junior boldly claimed that he did not want to see any changes in Hocevar, neither as a driver nor as a person. The 51-year-old continued that he wanted NASCAR to be bigger than any other sport, and for this, there needed to be drivers daring to do the unthinkable.

I don’t want Hocevar to change, I don’t, I want this sport to be bigger than any other sport, and I want it to be watched by tens of millions of people every week.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on Dale Jr. Download.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. firmly believes that this is where Carson Hocevar is needed, to boost the sport’s popularity and overall appeal. The former NASCAR star continued that drivers like Connor Zilisch, Ross Chastain, and Denny Hamlin were necessary, as they were far from ordinary drivers. Junior pointed out how the sport could thrive better with varying personalities of drivers, especially Hocevar and Co.

That’s where we need Hocevar. We need people like Hocevar, we need people like Connor Zilisch, we need people like Ross Chastain, we need people like Denny Hamlin — we need all these very great, awesome, different personalities. And we need to be celebrating that.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals being in ‘regular contact’ with Carson Hocevar over texts

Despite JRM and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s critical stance over Carson Hocevar in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, the former asserted that there were no personal grudges between them. Rather, they respect Hocevar even more as he is able to handle these comments and still not react explosively. Now, Junior asserts that he motivates the Spire Motorsport star to remain the same as he is, and not change.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he texted Carson Hocevar and informed him that they would have some critical comments about him on television. However, the JRM owner reassured Hocevar that his job was to buckle up and race, not focus on the criticism. Dale Jr. believes that if people are not talking about him, then he is doing something wrong, as he might fade into the background and not be relevant anymore.

I text Hocevar all the time, and I say, ‘Hey, we’re critical, we’re gonna be critical, we’re gonna talk about you. Your job is to buckle up and race and do your best. The noise is gonna be noisy. It’s when they’re not talking about you is when you need to be worried. If you’re invisible out there, if nobody’s worried about you, concerned about you, pulling for you, caring about your performance, then you’re in trouble.’

Dale Earnhardt Jr. noted.

Certainly, the 2026 season is seemingly more exciting than ever. Despite the Cup Series having the same winner for the first three races in Tyler Reddick, the races have remained exciting. Moreover, Carson Hocevar might just be the thing that NASCAR needs, as his personality has definitely improved numbers for the sport.
