Martin Truex Jr.’s retirement at the end of the 2024 season has opened up a championship contending seat for taking at Joe Gibbs Racing. The most sight after free agent in the grid, Chase Briscoe is reportedly the front-runner to sign with the team, as JGR is not looking to give the seat to a rookie.   

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently talked about the potential move and explained the pros and cons of it. He highlighted that there is a huge risk involved for the young Ford driver as there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders to deliver.  But Junior also feels the deal would be done quickly if everything went right.

He pointed out that unlike his fellow SHR driver who are also out of their jobs in the 2025 season, Briscoe has a ton of financial supports, such as from the like of Mahindra, and it makes a major difference. So, he reckons that Briscoe-JGR contract would come together quickly that many believe it would.

I think it’s going to work out, but I think there’s a level of risk as well, for Joe Gibbs Racing. I think that one thing that definitely made a difference in this sign, and this is why this is happening — coming so quickly, before any other drivers you know, like [Ryan] Preece, Josh Berry and Noah [Gragson] and those guys, the reason why I think this one is coming together so quickly is because Briscoe has a ton of financial support that he himself has created.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. also highlights Noah Gragson’s financial backing

After appreciating Briscoe’s commitments to his sponsors and the work he has done over the years, Junior also highlighted similar capability of Noah Gragson. He highlighted that the No:10 Ford driver is also in good spot to sign a new deal in 2025 because of the millions of backing he has.

That’s probably the No. 1 reason why Noah Gragson will be in Cup again next year, is because Noah too has created partnerships that love him, and they want to go take their millions where Noah goes. So I feel like Noah ends up in a pretty decent spot.

Noah Gragson and Chase Briscoe will be the drivers that would definitely secure a seat in the 2025 season as they have the talent alongside financial backing to succeed at the moment. It would be interesting to see where the SHR duo will end up next-season.
