Legacy Motor Club, which is co-owner by NASCAR champions Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty, alongside Maurie Gallagher, has improved significantly in the 2025 season.  Their sophomore year with Toyota has been strong, with their drivers John Hunter Namecheck and veteran Erik Jones producing solid runs, that includes multiple toip-10s unlike in the past.

All these credit goes to seven times champion Jimmie Johnson, who joined the team as a minority owner/driver in 2023 and now is a majority owner by bringing in his investment consortium. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the latest episode of his podcast discussed this change, highlighting how hiring veterans of the sport from other teams and by leading them in the right path, Johnson has retooled the organization.

I would say similar to Kaulig, Legacy Motor Club has made a massive gain, and I think that gain has happened during the season, not so much the offseason. Jimmie Johnson is now the majority owner of that team. We saw a ton of interesting hires over there the last six months. Jimmie is retooling that organization…

Throughout his career Jimmie Johnson was known for being a meticulous leader on and off the track. This factor has played a significant roles in the growth of LMC in the last few years. His feedback from the part-time runs also plays a significant role. His decision-making ability is evident considering how he used the supposed outcasts from different teams and got the best out of them.

He made it work and it’s really impressive because Jimmie is spread thin as a human. He’s all over the place, but he’s plugged in enough to understand to put the right people in the right places to succeed in every department going in the right direction and it’s starting to show up on the racetrack. It’s fascinating. Incredible job.

Jimmie Johnson is building his and his team’s future with new partnership

Recently it was announced that Jimmie Johnson has followed the path of NFL legend Tom Brady and Tennis legend Serina Williams by signing with William Morris Endeavor (WME), one of the biggest Hollywood talent agencies. He seems to be looking to build a post-race empire with the help of the lite group.

They will also be involved with Legacy Motor Club, helping them to develop more as a team and as a brand. Since Johnson joined the team, LMC has been able to land big sponsorship deals, showcasing the veteran’s capability as a leader and now with the new deal, he can be more producing at the front, which will play a significant role in the team’s future development.

This might be one of the reasons why the veteran has no plans to retire from the sport anytime soon. Johnson made his 700th career Cup start last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Coal 600 weekend and some speculated that ot is going to be the Hall of Famer final race in the lite stock car racing division.

But he quickly shut down the claims and asserted that he has more racing left in him. He won’t be racing as any races as he used to, as the team is planning to field the No:84 car to other part-time drivers as part of their development plans. All these indicates that the veteran is playing the long-game and looking forward to making his team a championship worthy side.
