Austin Hill has found himself at the center of controversy in NASCAR. The RCR driver has had two back-to-back incidents in the Xfinity Series, receiving massive backlash from fans and pundits alike. Now, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. has exposed the mindset of Hill and his team that remains unchanged despite the situation.

The 31-year-old was forced to miss one race after wrecking Aric Almirola at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This was seen as a major warning from NASCAR to Austin Hill. Fans hoped that the RCR driver will be less aggressive when he comes back to the field at Watkins Glen. However, it seems that Hill didn’t get the memo. He triggered a massive 16-car wreck after colliding with Michael McDowell in the Xfinity race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. insisted that Hill and RCR seem to feel the victims of the entire situation, rather than taking the blame for the incidents. He pointed out that team owner Richard Childress is not known to back down. Thus, Austin Hill and his crew feel like they have been wronged by NASCAR and were not going to change anything. Rather, Dale Jr. joked that for the 31-year-old, the return to the field was nothing short of a Round 2. This was certainly the case as the RCR veteran did not make even the slightest of changes to his aggressive racing style, leading to a collision that could’ve been easily avoided.

Austin and them feel like they got dead wronged. Austin Hill did not come to the Glen with his tail between his legs in remorse. RCR didn’t, Richard don’t. They’re of the mindset that ‘Y’all f*cked us over, man, and y’all took our points and you’ve put us in this position where we’re gonna f*cking come back swinging. Round 2, motherf*cker, here it comes.’

Dale Earnhardt Jr. not surprised with no change from Austin Hill and RCR

Usually, teams force their drivers to tone down on-track aggression after receiving any penalty or a suspension. No team would want its car to miss a race simply because its driver failed to keep things clean. But Richard Childress Racing is a different beast altogether.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. exposed the attitude of the team. RCR was simply not a team that was willing to accept the fault of its driver. This is something that Earnhardt is still trying to understand. The NASCAR legend pointed out that he has seen such a firm stance by the team for years. He claimed that RCR had built itself a reputation of coming back even harder if they were forced to a corner.

That’s their attitude, and honestly, I’m battling with this internally because that’s always been their attitude — this ain’t new. RCR’s always been the scuffler, the aggressive ‘don’t push us, we’ll push back twice.’ They don’t put up with shit.

Certainly, Austin Hill and RCR are slowly reaching a point where they might not have anything to lose. It seems that the 31-year-old was given a free hand to continue his on-track antics without worrying about the outcome. Luckily, Hill did not receive a penalty for the incident at Watkins Glen, despite escalating tensions between NASCAR and RCR. While such an aggressive mindset might seem right from the team’s perspective, it is not ideal, especially when Hill has caused such major wrecks.
