NASCAR fined Bubba Wallace $50,000 for hitting Alex Bowman during the cool-down lap at Chicago. The move was considered dangerous by the sanctioning body as Bowman’s window net was down and their seat belt was off. But the decision to find the Toyota driver wasn’t received well.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. was furious with the decision. He actually put the blame on Alex Bowman for undoing the safety equipment during the cool-down laps which he shouldn’t have been doing. He thinks Bubba Wallace has no responsibility over that and shouldn’t be blamed for it.
Let me tell ya something, that ain’t Bubba’s responsibility. That ain’t. And so, you can’t smack Bubba’s hand for Bowman having his belts loose. I can go to Bubba and say, ‘Hey, man, you know next time, he might have his belts loose. Let’s not do that.’Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted that Alex Bowman shouldn’t have undone the safety equipment during the cool-down lap as it should be undone only after the car comes to a stop at the garage. Later in the same podcast, Junior advised Wallace to forget the incident as it isn’t a big deal.
But I go to Bowman, ‘What the hell do you have your belts loose?’ If that’s even true, that’s hearsay. I’m hearing people say he had his window down and his belts loose or his belts off. I just can’t even believe that he would have that on a cool-down lap. He’s still in the car moving.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Kevin Harvick gives Bubba Wallace wise advice over the fine
Kevin Harvick and Bubba Wallace met each other during the Legends car race before the Pocono weekend and during their conversation advised him on how to approach the media at Pocono. He told the 23XI driver to be himself and not show any frustration or anger over the massive fine.
Just be yourself and don’t go in there and be defensive or mad. You can be mad and you can still have your opinion, but it doesn’t have to be that you’re angry, right?Kevin Harvick said.
The Toyota driver did take the advice to heart and behaved professionally at Pocono. He was calm and collected while sharing his opinion. This showed the maturity that has been missing in the past for the driver.
