NASCAR is making a change in the 2026 Cup Series calendar. As per a leak, the sport will have a points race at North Wilkesboro Speedway instead of the All-Star Race. This change has made NASCAR veteran Dale Earnhardt Jr. incredibly excited. He could not hold back his feelings on his Dale Jr. Download podcast.
The sport returned to North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2023 with the All-Star Race. This was the first time NASCAR raced at the speedway since its last points race all the way back in 1996. Veterans like Dale Earnhardt Jr. were happy to see the iconic track back on the calendar. Moreover, since 2023, North Wilkesboro has received positive feedback from drivers and fans over the All-Star Race.
Thus, NASCAR is going to have a points race at NWB Speedway next year, making it more important for the championship. On the other hand, the All-Star Race will move to Dover, something that has divided opinions.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. addressed the leaked 2026 schedule to fans. The 49-year-old informed those who weren’t aware about the changes on the calendar. Dale Jr. couldn’t hold back his excitement from seeing a points race return to North Wilkesboro.
Moreover, he claimed that this finished the ‘rebirth story’ of NASCAR as another legendary track was due to host a points race. On top of that, things only became better for Earnhardt. He revealed that he would be at the speedway as part of the broadcasting team next season.
So there’s a schedule update coming out this week. And I think everybody knows everything, right? We’re not breaking news here. Everything is known, but I’ll say this. Um, the all-star race is moving to Dover. North Wilkesboro is getting a points race. North Wilkesboro getting a points race is ***. I think it finishes the entire rebirth story, right? It finishes the story. It’ll be in the broadcast window — I will be there to broadcast it.

The 49-year-old even posted a tweet on X over this change. Dale Earnhardt Jr. went as far as claiming that every NASCAR fan would be a winner when the cars race at North Wilkesboro next season.
The big news for me on the 2026 @NASCAR schedule is @NWBSpeedway getting a points race! I can't wait to call 400 laps of night racing there on July 19. It's massive for the surrounding community, and every fan of NASCAR is going to feel like a winner next July.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shocked to see points race at North Wilkesboro Speedway
Following the initial comment on the NASCAR calendar change, Dale Earnhardt Jr dived deep into the switch between North Wilkesboro and Dover. While NWB Speedway got a big win, Dover’s relegation to the All-Star Race might upset some fans.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. pointed out that making such a change was not easy for NASCAR. NASCAR chief Marcus Smith would’ve needed to convince a host of stakeholders to switch the two tracks, similar to how the sport would need to make any changes to the car. This shocked Dale Jr. who was impressed that Smith even managed to convince everyone.
There has to be an All-Star Race. There’s a lot of reasons why Dover is going to be an All-Star Race. It’s very similar to the car itself, in terms of to change anything on the car, it’s a committee. NASCAR can’t just change something it wants to change on the car. … I was shocked, honestly, that they were able to even switch North Wilkesboro and Dover. I’m shocked that Marcus was even able to convince all the people involved, to take the two tracks and flip them.
