One of the major topics of discussion in the current era of stock car racing has been the lack of racing etiquette, especially in the lower divisions. The veteran of the sports has been vocal about it for many years, demanding changes, but nothing concrete happened. This Saturday’s race at Martinsville proved, why the time has come to demand more from the drivers.
The Xfinity Series race witnessed 14 cautions and one red flag incident, causing 104 of the 256 laps being under cautions. Almost all of the cautions were the product of easily avoidable incident caused by racers’ mistake and aggressive driving style. The red flag with 20 laps left in the race wasn’t even the most egregious incident of the day, as it happened on the final corner of the race.
Sammy Smith wrecked Tyler Grey, coming up from multiple positions down, in what he called move that is needed to secure the race win. This resulted a mega-wreck, that ended the duo race as well as many others. This helped Austin Hill to steal a surprise win. Hall of Famer and co-owner of JRM Dale Earnhardt Jr. was furious with the racer and racers, as he shared his feelings on X.
This racetrack is historic in the grand scheme of all things NASCAR and deserves better.

Junior also re-shared the comments made on the controversial incident by NASCAR legend Jeff Burton. He highlighted that the young racers seem to need a reality check on aggressive racing. Burton believes if they raced the likes of Jack Ingram and Tommy Ellis, two of the most influential no-no-nonsense racers in the sport, they would learn their lesson.
Some of these guys needed to have the experience of racing with Jack Ingram and Tommy Ellis.

Xfinity Series veterans are clearly disappointed by Martinsville race
Legendary racer Parker Kligerman shared his thoughts on the situation via X, just like Junior. He admitted that it was not the best display of second tier NASCAR racing and pointed out that the over aggression has now become pretty common in the sport. Kligerman also declared such aggression is unacceptable, especially on short tracks.

Not the best display by the Xfinity series tonight. For most of the stuff through the field I feel I’ve almost become desensitized to it as it’s just become so common. But as I said, that move at the end was unacceptable. Especially since they were even on shots at each other.

Xfinity owner-driver Jeremy Clements, who has raced in over 500 events in the second division was more than disappointed with the lack of respect shows on the track. He urged everyone from the racing community to get involved and do what is necessary to make clean the racing among the youngsters of the sport.
Really disappointed in the lack of respect on the track tonight. It’s a disgrace to this great series. Not many out there raced without just running into the guy in front of them. Not sure what we do to clean it up but something must be done.
Jeremy Clements said.
Just like the racers, NASCAR fans also shared the same feelings about racers showing no respect on the track and the final product being just crash fest. The sanctioning body needs to step up and make rules changes, if necessary, to ensure such incidents doesn’t happen again.
