2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson stirred controversy after making bold comments over his involvement in the Xfinity Series. The HMS veteran admitted in Kevin Harvick‘s Happy Hour Podcast that he wants to embarrass the competition in NASCAR’s second tier to teach the young generation. Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has hit back at the claims made by the 32-year-old.

Kyle Larson claimed that the only reason he continued to race in the Xfinity Series was to humiliate the drivers in the field. The 32-year-old wanted to show that the level of Cup Series was far superior compared to the second tier. However, these remarks have not been met kindly by Dale Jr., who runs JR Motorsports in Xfinity.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. insisted that although he understood the point Larson wanted to make, the comments make him want to go head-to-head with the Cup champion in Xfinity with his team. The 50-year-old claimed that he would like to see Larson sign up for more races in NASCAR’s second tier.

I understand the point he was trying to make but the way he presented it only made me wish he would sign up for a few more races this year so we can have a chance.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on the Dale Jr. Download.

Kyle Larson drives for Hendrick Motorsports. Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged that Hendrick might not have a free car for the 47-year-old. However, he emphasized that other Chevrolet cars might be available for Larson if he chose to take up such a challenge. Dale Earnhardt Jr. even took a jibe at the 2021 Cup champion, claiming that the Hendrick car cannot help him make his way through the field again.

He’ll tell us the Hendrick car is full. They got [Corey] Day, Rajah [Caruth], [Jake] Finch — they got a season full. But there’s other Chevrolets out there and he won’t be in that sweet Hendrick equipment carrying him around that racetrack. But hey, he’s the difference maker, right?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. questions Kyle Larson’s Xfinity performance

Kyle Larson was competing in the Xfinity Series last weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway, alongside the Cup Series. The 47-year-old dominated both series with a combined lead of 687 laps out of 800. Though, Earnhardt has questioned his performance during the Bristol round.

Dale Earnhardt Jr was confused that Kyle Larson failed to lap the entire field in the second tier race. The 50-year-old asserted that Larson did have the pace to accomplish such a feat but simply failed to do so. Moreover, he reckoned that the 2021 Cup champion should’ve actually managed to lap the field considering the level of his performance right now.

I don’t know why he didn’t lap the field. He was out there Saturday in the Xfinity race to lap the field, and he should’ve. … He had the field covered and he should the way he ran.

Dale Earnhardt Jr stated.

Kyle Larson remains discontent with the way NASCAR has managed Xfinity Series in recent years. Previously, Cup drivers were allowed to compete in as many as Xfinity races as they wished. Drivers in the 2000s have even won the second tier while running a full-time Cup campaign.

However, the sport has cracked down on such runs over the years. Cup drivers are now only allowed to race in a maximum of five Xfinity and Truck races in a season. They must also declare for one of the three championships before the season commences.
