The NASCAR community was conflicted when it was announced that 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace was fined $50,000 for his Chicago antics. He door-slammed then-race winner Alex Bowman during the cool-down lap over an early race incident that ruined his race. NASCAR deemed the move dangerous and fined him.

Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been a big critic of the fine and backlash over the incident. In the recent episode of the podcast advised Bubba Wallace to get over the incident by forgetting about it as it isn’t a big deal that he should be concerned about. He reiterated that the fine was unwarranted.

I would say to Bubba, ‘Man it wasn’t that big of a deal. I would just say to Bubba, ‘Hey, I can understand the emotion, you ran into him.’ A lot of us didn’t think it should have been a fine. …I thought 50 grand was excessive. NASCAR has their reasons, I don’t know what they were. I was surprised by that. That was a large fine.

He then urged Wallace to make the necessary personal chance that requires and never think about it again. Junior asserted that it would be good if Wallace avoided such situations in the future but admitted that even if he doesn’t it is not a big deal.

Put it in the rearview mirror. Make the personal adjustments, but don’t have another thought about it. Maybe in this situation next time he does it differently, great. But otherwise, I think it’s not that big of an issue.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. applauded Bubba Wallace for being open about his struggles

Bubba Wallace has always been open about his mental health struggles unlike many drivers in the garage and it’s a quality Junior liked about the driver. He did admit that sometimes the Toyota driver put too much pressure on himself.

I appreciate being open about that. We all probably have more mental challenges and battles going on than we like to admit. But he’s been open about that, and it seems like Bubba definitely does dwell on certain instances like this and maybe makes it a bit larger in his own mind than it is to the rest of us.

As Junior said Wallace should forget about this incident and continue being himself. At the same time, he should check on his shirt-tempered nature as it might put him in the wrong spot in the future. It would be interesting to see how Wallace will change after the penalty.
