Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill played the role of the perfect villain last week’s Xfinity race at Talladega Superspeedway. He won the race making some questionable moves, spoiled championship-4 hopes of some drivers and supposedly gave the bird to the whole grandstands, aimed at the fans that were booing him.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the latest episode of the Dale Jr. Download shared his thoughts on the situation. He asserted that the claims about Austin Hill giving the bird to the whole grandstands are false. The JR Motorsports co-owner asserted that the middle finger wasn’t targeted at all the fans.

Now, let’s be clear, Austin Hill did not drive – this is Austin Hill driving by the grandstands, driver’s side toward the grandstand, he did not drive down the front straightaway with his middle finger in the air the whole way.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.

The veteran pointed out that the middle figure was aimed at the person, who caught the moment in the camara and probably some fans in the grandstands that were giving him double birds at the moment. It was just a wild moment where a driver responding to the fans that were showing their displeasure at them.

He’s flipping a guy off, and he’s looking directly at the camera, and he’s responding to some fans who are probably two or three dudes in the grandstands that are probably sitting there double-birding him, and he’s just giving it back. And I agree.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

Further talking about the same point, the Hall of Famer pointed out that the villainess nature of the RCR driver needs to be embraced. He asserted that the fans love to hate him and having him on the track adds more dynamic to the race. There aren’t many people willing to be the villain of the sport, and Hill should be acknowledged for it.

We need to embrace this to an extent. We call it out for what it is. They love to hate him, you know? And so, I’m good with it. I agree with this post here about letting it slide because it does add some color. You know, there’s not a lot of people out there willing to be the villain, to be the bad guy, to be the guy that’s, you know, not a lot of guys willing to do that.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted.

NASCAR has refused to penalize Austin Hill for his actions

Many in the racing community was expecting NASCAR to penalize Hill for his actions, as there have been intense in the past where drivers got punished. But there was no mention of any punishments for the Chevy driver.

No NASCAR penalty report this week. Austin Hill not fined for flipping off the fans who were shooting him the middle finger after his Talladega win.

Jeff Gluck reported on X.

Some fans understand the decision, as they feel the RCR racer shouldn’t be punished for responding to the fans the same way they responded to them. It would be interesting to see how the racing community and fans is going to respond the racer in the coming races.
