The 2024 NASCAR season so far has been a roller coaster of emotions for Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin. He was hailed as a championship contender at the start of the season, owing to his impressive three race wins. But as the season progressed, he was overlooked for the likes of Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson, who were more consistent.

The No:11 Toyota driver was able to survive the R-16 and R-8, that was filled with wild card races and now has to produce his best ever performance in the R-8 to make it into the finale as a contender. Many feels, Denny Hamlin is racing in a desperation mode as 2024 seems to be his last bets shot at winning the Cup, but ex-Cup champion Dale Jarrett is refusing to buy that claim.

Jarrett, who has been in Hamlin shoes in the past, pointed out that the JGR driver doesn’t believes he doesn’t have another chance to win the championship in the future. He added that Hamlin will be fighting strong for the championship for at least in the next-two seasons.

Certainly, a lot of people would look at it that maybe Denny might be in a desperation mode. I will assure you, he’s not that. … Denny is not sitting there thinking if I don’t get this done this year, then there’s not going to be another chance. My career is not going to be complete. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Denny is right there too. He certainly is not going to drive until he is 51 like I did, but he does have a couple of more good years around him and can get it done.

Dale Jarrett told NBC Sports.

Dale Jarrett names Denny Hamlin as perfect exempla for great drivers without a championship

Over the years, there have been many drivers in the NASCAR Cup series who has been dominant on the track and amassed a lot of big races wins but failed to win the championship. According to Jarrett, Hamlin is a perfect example for that elite and unfortunate group, as he is now the winningest driver without a title in the sport.

And, you know, unfortunately there’s been a lot of great, great race drivers that have come through the ranks and never got that moment that they could win a championship. They’ve done everything else, and Denny is this perfect example. Winning big races. Jeff Burton is on this call. He won big, big races. Came close to winning a championship, but it just didn’t happen.

The TRD veteran still has time to take his name out of the list and put it between the great Cuyp champions. He needs to tidy up and execute well on the track, everything else will follow. It will be interesting to see if 2024 will be championship year for Hamlin.
