The 2025 NASCAR Cup season so far hasn’t been kind to 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick, who was the regular season champion last year. He has failed to win a single race this season, despite being one of the most consistent performers of the season and having a fast car. His teammate Bubba Wallace has already won a race, the Brickyard 400.
Tyler Reddick had one of the best chances to win a Cup event this season on Sunday at Darlington Raceway, the 2025 playoff opener. But his charge wasn’t good enough to earn him a finish better than P2, as the No:19 Toyota driver Chase Briscoe was significant dominant than him, leading over 300+ laps. He tried everything till the final laps only to drive back home disappointed.
On his post-race interview Reddick tried to explained what went wrong for him on the day. The No:45 TRD driver pointed out that in the long run the car lacked the balanced he hoed for, and when he got close enough to Briscoe towards the end the time had run out. Finding himself so close to winning consistently is making the veteran racer sick.
The balance had just kind of gone away. It was a long run, for sure … We just weren’t tight enough in the end to be able to do something with the No. 19 [Briscoe]. For me, it just makes me sick. I feel like late in this race, especially the Southern 500, I always find myself second or third in the last green-flag run, trying to pass the leader.

Furthermore, the two times Xfinity Series champion asserted that he is still sulking over the disappointing loss to his Toyota teammate. Though he knows he will be able to shift the focus the Gateway race week, at the moment not being able to make the final pass stick in order to win races is making him sick.
I think Monday morning, I’ll wake up and be thinking playoffs, but right now I’m just thinking about this race – Darlington. Those things are great for us, but man I’ve done everything to win at this place and it’s really starting to drive me nuts (laughs).

Tyler Reddick ran out of ideas while chasing Chase Briscoe at the end
In the same conversation post-race earlier, Tyler Reddick admitted that he ran out of ideas towards the end of the race while trying to catch up with Chase Briscoe who was absolutely dominant. He was loss most of the time due to the lack of grip and nothing he did to counter that wasn’t enough to get him over the line.

I was out of ideas. I was really loose off the wall. He was as well. I was trying to get a gauge for how much grip I was going to have. I really drove it in there and I didn’t have any.

One option he had to make a move on the No:19 Toyota at the end was to bump the JGR car from behind in the left rear. But he couldn’t make the move, as he was hanging onto his left rear and if he had made any contact with the leader, he would have spun himself out, costing him a good point haul.
I was pretty much hanging on from the moment I hit the brake pedal. Just trying to hang onto his left-rear, but it was going to take a bump in the left-rear to upset his car and that probably would have spun me out.

The 23XI Racing driver made the right choice by not taking too much risk towards the end and settle for P2, that comes with solid point finish. But from this Sunday at Gateway, he should be willing to take more risk in order to have a deep playoff run.
