American defense and aerospace manufacturer giant Lockheed Martin has made history with their new missile launch, with a major involvement from NSASCAR’s Richard Childress Racing (RCR). The historic moment was the successful 90-degree launch of the Joint-Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) at China Lake, California.
As per the reports from Adam Stern of the SBJ, Lockheed Martin used Richard Childress Racing Enterprises 6×6 Mothership vehicle for the successful launch. It’s the parent company of the six times NASCAR Cup championship winning team RCR owned by Hall of Famer Richard Childress Racing and has been a prominent figure in the industry.
Lockheed Martin says that for the first time, it 90-degree launched a new air-to-surface missile that came from a launcher “mounted to a Richard Childress Racing 6×6 Mothership vehicle.”…The NASCAR team’s parent company, RCR Enterprises, does work with the defense industry.

Lockheed Martin sees this as an important accomplishment that aligns with their future goals. Casey Walsh, the program management director for Lockheed Martin Multi-Domain Missile Systems, pointed out that the success enhances survivability and flexibility for future combat operations by the militaries across the world.
The successful JQL vertical‑launch demonstration confirms that JAGM can be rapidly deployed from a multimissile launcher across a variety of scenarios, while delivering the network‑centric integration our global users demand. His milestone validates our vision of a unified missile architecture that seamlessly operates across air, land and sea domains, enhancing survivability and flexibility for future combat operations.
Casey Walsh said via a press release.
The success also gives RCR the opportunity to further expand their business’ beyond just NASCAR. RCR owns and operates bossiness such as Childress Vineyards, ECR Engines, RCR Manufacturing Solutions, Carolina Cowboys PBR Team, Yadkin River Angus Ranch, Childress Technology, RCR Graphics and M2X Energy. He also co-funded Childress Institute in Paediatric Trauma.
Richard Childress made his RCR empire with just $20 bet
Growing up in a modest background and work ethic, Richard Childress’ initial investment into racing was a $20 1947 Plymouth cab he and friend bought. He got the opportunity race after winning a coin toss and the rest in NASCAR history.

Only in America could a kid with a $20 race car and a dream be here today… Everything you see today and everything started with that old $20 race car. I started with an old $20 race car, taxicab, Bowman Gray Stadium, and Forrest started selling additives in the truck stops.
Richard Childress recently said in an interview in 2025.
The Hall of Famer is now worth over $250 million and all of his success is the product of his years of leadership as well as signing the right personals to guide his team. Though RCR is currently going through a tough time, they are capable of making a comeback sooner or later.
