Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is arguably one of the most accomplished drivers in the NASCAR community. He has won over 54 races in the top-tier including three Daytona 500, but despite having a long and consistent career he hasn’t been able to win a championship. But that motivates him to fight twice has hard to win races.

Recently Denny Hamlin sat down with former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace for his YouTube show Kenny Conversations and discussed his competitive nature. He admitted that though he has accomplished more than many of the champions of the sport, he hasn’t been able just really cherish them despite knowing how hard he worked for it.

So, it’s surreal to me what I’ve accomplished what I have in this sport, I just haven’t sat down and really enjoyed them quite yet. Which is a shame because I know that, that’s part of why I work so hard to do this and do this at a high level is because you want to accomplish these things and enjoy those accomplishments.

He went onto admit that him being an a**hole when it comes to competition is the reason for his inability to fully enjoy things at the moment. Hamlin understands it is character flaw that he always feel one is not good enough and he needs more.

But I’m probably too big of an asshole like I said on my podcast when it comes to competition, I just, this one’s not good enough, I need another and I need another. So, I certainly feel like it’s a character flaw in me that I need to enjoy things a little more.
Denny Hamlin added.

Denny Hamlin is guilty of not celebrating his accomplishments

The JGR veteran earlier during the talks with Kenny Wallace admitted that he often thinks about the race wins he misses out and don’t celebrate his triumphs. He admitted that he is guilty of celebrating success of everyone around him, but not the ones he secures.

I think about the ones that got away. … It’s crazy, we do not celebrate our own accomplishments, we usually only celebrate our kids’ accomplishments or our friends’ accomplishments. We rarely take time to really sit back and enjoy what we’ve accomplished ourselves. I’m very, very guilty of that.
Denny Hamlin said.

The attitude really fit an athlete with a lot of ambitions and goals. This has been the major component of success Hamlin has had since his debut and will remain the same till he retires. He will have time once he retires to understand the gravity of his success and really enjoy it.
