Denny Hamlin asserts Christopher Bell is a championship “THREAT” in 2024

The 2024 NASCAR Cup season so far has been a roller coaster ride for Christopher Bell. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver have won two races and has already secured a spot in the playoff. But at the same time, he is underperforming considering the level shown by his teammate Denny Hamlin and the unlucky incident he has been part of throughout the season.
Luck yet again ruined a great opportunity for him, this time at the Enjoy Illinois 300 at the Gateway. He was having solid race before a motor issue slowed him down. Despite the issue with the car he was able to finish P7 in the race, thanks to the gap he build earlier in the race and a bit of help from veteran teammate Martin Truex Jr.
Now Denny Hamlin, while talking about the youngster’s race on his podcast pointed out that, Bell would be championship contender if he is able to make it into the season finale at Phoenix. He admitted that he was impressed by his final finish at Gateway and the speed he has shown in the flat track over the last few weeks.
When I saw he finished seventh, I was like ‘Oh wow,'. limped it home, but I think the field was so spread out that moment. …Maybe he gained a second by [Martin] Truex pushing him down the straightaways but certainly was beneficial. He was still running really fast through the corners…This is the second track in a row these mile flat tracks where [Bell] has really shown a lot of speed. If he can make it to Phoenix, he’s gonna be a threat.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
Christopher Bell had no idea what happened at Gateway
While talking to the media after the race Bell admitted that he had no idea what went wrong with his car and how he ended up in such situation. He is glad they were able to salvage something out of the race but is again disappointed how it played out.
I have no idea what happened. Some sort of motor issue. I’m surprised that I made it to the end. Glad we were able to salvage something out of it. You don’t get race cars like that very often. Whenever you do, you need to take advantage of it. Disappointing day.Christopher Bell said.
If Bell able get his clutch form and consistency from last season back he would be genuine contender like Hamlin predicted. He has the most Champonship-4 experience of all drivers in the current grid in the Next-Gen era, as he made it to the finale in 2022 and 2023. He will be hoping to settle all the scores in 2024 and get the important win.
