Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is one of the most successful Superspeedway racers of his generation, with his three Daytona 5000 wins being the highlight of his career. But since the start of the Next-Gen era he has failed to reproduce the dominance, owing to changes to the racing style which he no longer enjoys much.

But Denny Hamlin has found a way to relive the fun days. After watching the impressive Superspeedway races in the Xfinity Series, where lucky isn’t the most prominent factor, the veteran fancy a return to the second tier for a Superspeedway outing. On his podcast, he asked Joe Gibbs Racing to sign him up for an event.

I used to think there was no way I would sign up for superspeedway racing, but I would love — Joe Gibbs Racing if you’re hearing this — sign me up for a Xfinity superspeedway race.

Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental podcast.

Discussing the reasoning behind his wish, he admitted that he wants to relive the times when he was able to create runs on the Superspeedways and enjoy the good racing. He asserted that compared to the Cup series, the second-tier event is more compelling and has the better racing, despite it being only the second division.

That is how racing used to be. That is how good we used to have it and we just never knew it. Like, these cars are moving around, you can create runs…Tell me what was more compelling for you. The racing is so good. It’s so good and it’s because they have the bubble effect where they get close to each other, they push each other away instead of having to make contact

Xfinity, man, it just looks so fun. I wanna do it. Before I retire, I wanna do it. One more Xfinity race. … I would probably want to do Daytona because the runs are a little bigger than what they are at Talladega.

Denny Hamlin said.

Joe Gibbs Racing should consider their star and most loyal racer ever a shot at the Xfinity Series. Getting sponsorship won’t be a big issue for them and if they have the right car, a victory is possible unless lady luck favors RCR’s Austin Hill as usual.

Having the veteran guiding the TRD youngsters in the weekend will be big for team as they have a lot to learn from him as well as the rest of the Xfinity grid if they get the opportunity. It would be interesting to see if Coach Gibbs will help Hamlin to make his dream a reality.
