Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin came into the 2025 season finale with high hopes and solid preparation. He made mistake by pitting for four tires, giving Kyle Larson the opportunity to secure the Bill France Cup, without leading a single lap of the final.

Some even branded the title win underserving. The JGR veteran is furious with this narrative and called the critics out in the 2025 NASCAR banquet.
He’s been a great friend of mine. I hate for him that kind of the attention is shifted a little bit away from him and his championship because he’s definitely there’s a difference in deserving and should have been.
Denny Hamlin said Jeff Gluck on YouTube.
Further talking about the point, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran pointed out that everyone who has won a championship in NASCAR has earned it and the questions around who deserves it is invalid. I think that there there’s not a one person that can should ever question his deservingness of being a champion. That’s what I don’t like to see.
Denny Hamlin added.
The 23XI Racing co-owner is happy with Kyle Larson being crowned the winner, as at the end of the day it was his teammate who won the title. But even if the HMS driver was his enemy, he would have support him against the unfair criticism after he won the 2025 title, the second Cup of his racing career.
But I mean he’s a great friend of mine and wasn’t me. I was definitely happy for him. But I was just trying to do the right thing as a friend and regardless of my you know feelings and emotions that evening I it was important for me to go show him support.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
