In the last three race weekends, Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar has been getting more limelight than race winners. The No:77 team fielded three solid cars in these events for the youngsters and he was able outrun its limit to secure front row finishes. Last weekend’s race winner at Michigan, Denny Hamlin, has given his verdict on the Spire drivers capabilities.

The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran, like many in the racing community, sees the 2024 rookie of the season, Carson Hocevar as a Superstar raw talent. But to convert his speed to performance, the youngster has learned to control his emotions and aggressive racing style. When he can find the right balance, he will end up as one of the six elite drivers in current grid, despite being among the youngest.

Absolutely, just a superstar when it comes to actual raw talent. When he figures out how to harness that, pick and choose the moments where he is aggressive, he’s going to put it all together and just be the next whoever. There’s five to six elite drivers in this field. He can be one of those five or six very easily when he puts it all together.

The JGR driver believes the youngster has all the tools under his disposal at Spire, a team that’s on the rise with their significant investments over last two seasons. Though Denny Hamlin disagrees with how Hocevar races, he understands that the youngster is a future star as soon as he figures out how to race efficiently and starts winning races.

He’s got all the tools to do it. He’s got all the pieces of the puzzle right in front of him. He has all the pieces. He’s not missing anything. It’s just when he figures out the riddle of how to put it together, he’s going to be a future star.

The comments from the Hamlin are shared by many in the racing community, from fans to the pundits. The youngster has to learn how to control his aggression on the track, talk more diplomatically in the media as well as his fellow drivers. If he can find a balance between all these, success is guaranteed.

He pointed out that the longer the No:77 teams run upfront, the more chance there is for him to secure race victories. Both he and his team are on the rise, and that unique dynamic gives him an edge over others.

You can’t run as fast as he’s running, being up front as much as he’s up front, without eventually winning. I know that panic sometimes can set in. It’s like, God, we lost this opportunity. But he’s with a team that is on the rise. He is on the rise. It’s just a matter of time. None of us would be shocked if it’s next week or a month from now or whenever it is.

So, does a Hocevar wins are weeks away from happening? Most probably yet as long as the team shifts their focus towards winning than getting more points on the race. The spire crew keeping the momentum alive in the upcoming road course race streak will be important as well, as if they lose that momentum, things can easily go south for a mid-table team like Spire.
