The 2024 season so far has been a nightmare for Spire Motorsports veteran Corey LaJoie. He came into the season with a lot of hopes after having his career best year in 2023, consistently failed to produce good results. His rookie teammate Carson Hocevar outperforming in every session made much worse and finally forced Spire axe him for the 2025 season.
The bad streak doesn’t seem to end anytime soon for the veteran driver, as he was involved in a wild incident at Michigan on Monday. Towards the end of the race, Corey LaJoie found himself in a battle for top 20 finish with Noah Gragson. During the duel, host control and went sideways, causing the No:7 Chevy to flip and go airborne. Fortunately, the car landed safely, and he was able to get out without any major injury.
The car flip was unprecedented as none expected it happen to any driver, with the odds being very law considering Kyle Sieg having a similar incident on Saturdays’ Xfinity race. JGR veteran Denny Hamlin after seeing the incident, while driving, declared that Corey LaJoie was “his own worst enemy” to the surprise of many fans.
Corey LaJoie is just outta control, man. He’s his own worst enemy.Denny Hamlin said via team radio.

Corey LaJoie bemoans his luck in the 2024 season
While talking about his incident on the post-race interview, Corey LaJoie admitted that such incidents has been the story of the season for him. He pointed out that he has went upside down twice this season, both times when his team gave him fast cars and admitted that he has messed up the right opportunities.
That’s just about how the year has gone. We have a good car and I find a way to flip it upside down. Twice this year, we’ve been upside down and I hadn’t been upside down my whole career. That’s just unfortunately how the year for the No. 7 team has been all year. We’ve had speed, just haven’t been able to put it together.Corey LaJoie said.
The season has 12 more races left for Corey LaJoie to work on himself and produce better result in the coming years. It would be interesting to see if the veteran driver would be able get the bets out of his team and showcase his skills to land a seat soon.
