Chevy team Spire Motorsports has made its intentions clear for the future after they made the first major driver signing of the 2024 season. They signed Michael McDowell from FRM and has made their intentions of becoming contenders in the future clear. Recently veteran Denny Hamlin has explained why it’s the best move for both parties involved.

Denny Hamlin pointed out that considering what is ahead for the team in the coming two years, it’s obviously a great move for McDowell. He pointed out that considering the performance of Carson Hocevar this year, and the future team line-up, the team will soon become contenders for the last positions of the payoffs as they are a team on the rise.

We might be talking about two years from now that it was a good move, because obviously, we’re seeing through Carson Hocevar’s performance, that the team is on the rise. So, I think that, they’re going to have a really good driver lineup over there for sure at Spire. So, this is a team that probably will be contending for the backend of the playoff spots.

The JGR veteran seems spot on with his comments, as just like Hamlin’s team 23XI Racing, Spire has been making some huge investment in their race shops. They have some strong sponsorship deals in the arsenal as well. With the veteran-youngster duo of Hocevar and McDowell things seems really bright for them.

Denny Hamlin claims Michael McDowell’s move isn’t parallel

While talking about the move on the same podcast, Hamlin pointed out that McDowell is moving to a car that isn’t on the same level as the No:34 FRM Ford. He pointed out that McDowell might view it as a parallel move, but at the moment it isn’t, but might be the same in the future.

He (McDowell) must view it as the 71 car will be a equal to what he's in. I don't necessarily think that's the case right in this one moment, right now. Now, down the road, I don't know.
Denny Hamlin said.

The 23XI Racing co-owner is right saying the move is not parallel at the moment, but with in the next two years Spire might catch up with FRM in terms of quality. This will help McDowell to get back to performing in the same level as he used to.
