Chris Buescher and the No:17 RFK Racing team went back home with a broken heart for the second consecutive race of the season. At Kansas two weeks ago, he lost the race with a 0.001 second margin to Kyle Larson after an aggressive last lap battle and last Sunday at Darlington his race was ruined by Tyler Reddick with 10 laps left to the race.

A “really aggressive” attempt from Tyler Reddick to took the lead, resulted in the duo making contact coming into the turn, which destroyed Chris Buescher’s and send him to wall. The contact with the oursiude wall resulted in more damages. He was forced to pit and was able secure just a P30 finish in the race.  Reddick’s boss Denny Hamlin has addressed the incident via his podcast.

The JGR veteran pointed out that Chris Buescher’s emotional outburst and the heated confrontation with Reddick are understandable. He reckons the Ford driver was hurt by missing back-to-back chances for the win and his position in the top-16 being not secured hurt him as well. He asserted that Buescher would’ve have felt much better if he finished P2.

Had Buescher finished second, he probably doesn’t have the reaction that he had, but it’s understandable. He’s had a couple weeks now where he’s been thinking he’s gonna have a shot to win and it didn’t work out. And instead, it puts him back in that bubble position again. There’s obviously a lot of emotion because of the result.

Denny Hamlin breaks down Chris Buescher’s words to Tyler Reddick during confrontation

The 23XI Racing boss while talking about Buescher’s words to Reddick, pointed out that the Ford driver was lamenting about his position on the point table. Hamlin said, Buescher was reminding the TRD driver that a win would have meant a lot to him over an extra win to Reddick.

I think what he’s saying there is you’re locked into the playoffs and I’m not. I think that’s what he was trying to say is that this win meant more to him and his team than the extra win for you [Reddick] and your team.
Denny Hamlin said.

Chris Buescher has all the right to be disappointed about his finish on Sunday. But he has reasons to cheer as well, as his teammate Brad Keselowski won the race and the No:17 has been contenders in the last two races. It will give him confidence going into the next-weekend.
