The NASCAR charter market has been shaken up by Tony Stewart and Gene Haas’s decision to sell all the charter of Stewart Haas Racing. Three more charters from SHR are still on the market, as Front Row Motorsports already acquired on of them. Now Denny Hamlin has given his verdict on 23XI Racing purchasing one of those.
23 Racing currently has two charters and has always shown interest in extending their team. Multiple reports have come out suggesting that 23XI would be the team that will acquire an SHR charter. But co-owner Denny Hamlin has come out denying these rumors via his podcast Action Detrimental and revealed the condition he has to acquire the charter.
The TRD team is waiting to get the new charter deal done before making any further investment in the sport and they are not willing to entertain the uncertainty there is right now over the new charter deal. He asserted that 23XI Racing didn’t build their new race shop to be a two-car team, but it has to make a financial sense for them.
23XI is interested in getting a charter deal done. We don’t — right now, on Jan. 1, 2025, we don’t even have a charter. So, you can’t buy or sell something that doesn’t exist in our eyes. We have two charters till the end of this year and until we get a charter agreement done, that’s all we have. I mean, I didn’t build that facility to stay a two-car team, but it always has to make financial sense.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
Denny Hamlin doesn’t want to shell out millions every year
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver went on to point out that 23XI will not put itself in a position where they have shell out millions every year to keep the team running. So, they are determined to get the charter deal done before making further investment.
I’m not going to put myself in a position to where I’m having to shell out millions and millions of dollars every year just to keep this thing going. I will not do that personally. So, it has to make financial sense and the charter agreement needs to be better than it is certainly before I invest any more money in it.
Denny Hamlin said.
NASCAR needs to get the new charter deal finalized soon as it offers them a chance to make teams like Trackhosue and 23XI to invest more in the sport, which they are willing to do. They have to make sure the sides have the incentives to invest more into the sport.
