Joe Gibbs Racing started the New Hampshire Cup race with a big mess. While speaking in the pre-race press conference, No:20 Toyota Camry driver Christopher Bell accidently confirmed that Chase Briscoe would be joining the Toyota giants replacing 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr., who is set to retire at the end of the season.   

The star driver was able to redeem himself from the dram over the slip-up, as he went on to secure a fine victory at New Hampshire on Sunday surviving the challenges of the new wet tiers. JGR veteran Denny Hamlin addressed the drama over the mistake from Christopher Bell vis his podcast Action Detrimental.

The No:11 Toyota Camry driver pointed out that the whole incident was tough for Bell. He highlighted the fact that everyone knew who would be replacing Martin Truex Jr. and asserted that Joe Gibbs Racing is often late with the driver announcement as the wait for the new to naturally come out.

It was tough for Christopher — I don’t know if it was tough or not, I mean I think that everyone had assumed that a certain driver would be announced in the 19, but JGR is not always the quickest to put out their own news. It just stirs long enough to where it just comes out naturally.

During the 2022 season, Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing team shocked the whole garage when they announced the signing of Tyler Reddick despite him joining only two years after. He did it because the team didn’t want to address the rumors and reports.

This is why back in the day, it was very important for us to announce Tyler Reddick coming to 23XI two years in advance. I didn’t want these types of rumors and stuff getting out there. Just announce it, and then you deal with whatever you gotta deal with after that.

Tyler Reddick later went on to join 23XI in the 2023 season after some drama at RCR and since then he has won multiple races proving his decision was right. With the win on Sunday, Bell was able to survive more of the drama and now it would be interesting to see how the driver announcement will be done now.
