Superspeedway racing is one of the most entertaining factors about NASCAR and victories in these special ovals makes racers legends. NASCAR’s most accomplished father-son duo, seven times Cup champion Dale Earnhardt and two times Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr., are two drivers with the most success in these types of tracks.

Dale Earnhardt has won 13 Superspeedway events, with a record 10 wins at Talladega and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won 10 races in Superspeedways, making them the guidebook for triumphs. But according to three times Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, the duo might not be able to win races at Superspeedway in the current era owing to the changes to drafting nowadays.

Dale Jr. and Dale Earnhardt would have never survived in today’s superspeedway racing. Wouldn’t of done it. A, they wouldn’t have been successful because of how superspeedway racing happens today. But then to be told who you can and can’t draft with? It’s nonsense, but it’s the world we live in.

Denny Hamlin said via The Actions Detrimental.

Further talking about the point, the JGR veteran asserted that the manufacture has the control over the decisions making regarding drafting on the track, unlike in the past where racer where free to make alliances on the track. The OEM has clear instructions on who should draft with who, which Hamlin hates.

We absolutely know that manufacturers play a role in who you draft with and who you don’t. Teams play a role with who you draft with and who you don’t… I hate all of it, just for the record. I’d rather use anybody and everybody to my advantage.

Yeah. I mean, those conversations will happen, and you know, they haven’t happened yet. But you know, we’ll have an opportunity to sit down and discuss a kind of, you know, where each other’s heads were at during the time. I think it’s going to be a welcome change for (Chris) Gayle and a welcome change for me.

The comment from Denny Hamlin shows he understand building a new relationship, this late in his career is going to be a tough task. But he is ready for the challenge and this change might finally help him to win the championship he craves the most.
